He arrived on campus a week before the first game after transferring from Virginia Tech. Cornerback Devin Taylor, who spent the 2020 football season at Virginia Tech, is now on the roster at Bowling Green University. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound senior, a Lansing, Michigan native, played in 10 games for the Hokies, starting the final eight. He fi nished the season with 55 tackles and two interceptions. Virginia Tech safety Devin Taylor is no longer with the football team, according to coach Justin Fuente. Fuente made the announcement at his press conference on Wednesday. "I'm not sure what his future plans are, but we will be moving on this season with out him," Fuente said. "We wish him the best in his future endeavors." Taylor was limited to open fall camp because of a leg injury he suffered at the end of spring. He was competing for the starting spot alongside Devon Hunter at boundary safety. Fuente declined to elaborate on the situation other than saying there was an undisclosed issue that came up recently. "It was something over the last couple of days that we had dealt with and we are moving forward," Fuente said.The 6-foot-1, 200-pounder transferred to Virginia Tech in August last year from Illinois State. He earned All-Missouri Valley Football Conference first-team honors in 2019 at corner. He led the league with 24 passes defended and had five interceptions. Taylor ended up moving to safety a few weeks into the season with Tech's secondary dealing with a wave of absences from COVID-19 protocols. He started the team's last eight games at boundary safety and had 55 tackles (36 solo) with two interceptions and four passes defended. - Ro anoke Times

Virginia Tech defensive coordinator Justin Hamilton isn't sure where Devin Taylor will line up this fall. Taylor was one of six Tech players to take advantage of the NCAA granting all fall student-athletes an extra year of eligibility. He signed with the Hokies in late August as a grad transfer from Illinois State. The defender arrived on campus as Tech was wrapping up fall camp and wasn't cleared to practice until he went through COVID-19 protocols. He was a former third-team All-FCS corner - he had 24 passes defended with five interceptions in 2020 - but he didn't end up spending much time at the position once he got to Blacksburg. - Roanoke Times

Illinois State defensive back Devin Taylor didn't spend much time in the transfer portal. Taylor announced he was transferring on Wednesday in the wake of the Missouri Valley Conference Football cancelling fall football. He verbally committed to Virginia Tech less than 48 hours later. The 6-foot-1, 200-pounder was one of the most productive cornerbacks in the FCS last year with 24 passes defended (one shy of the school record) and five interceptions. He started all 15 of ISU's games and made the All-Mis souri Valley Football Conference first-team.Tech's recruiting staff checks the transfer portal database on a daily basis. The quick marriage made sense with Tech looking to add depth at cornerback after the departure of Caleb Farley, a first-team All-ACC selection last year. The Hokies have talent at the position with Jermaine Waller, Armani Chatman and Brion Murray, but those are the only three scholarship players with experience. NOV 18 MISSOURI VALLEY DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: DB Devin Taylor, Illinois State, 6-1, 200, Jr., Lansing, Michigan (Sexton HS),...Taylor locked down Missouri State wide receivers all afternoon, as the No. 7 Redbirds held off the Bears for a 17-12 vic tory at Hancock Stadium. The Lansing, Mich., native recorded his team-leading third interception of the season and finished the game with a career-high five pass breakups in the victory over the Bears. Taylor also had three solo tackles in the contest an d his final breakup on third-and-goal at the 3-yard line with under a minute remaining in the game set up the fourth-down turnover on downs that sealed the victory. Taylor now leads the team with 16 PBUs on the season and 19 total passes defended, which is tops among all Valley Football defensive backs and sixth in the nation.
