*Erik Ezukanma, Texas Tech, Player News

Texas Tech receiver Erik Ezukanma is skipping the Liberty Bowl and his final two seasons of eligibility to pursue a career in the NFL. Ezukanma is in position to lead the Red Raiders in receiving for a third consecutive season. He has 138 catches for 2,165 yards and 15 touchdowns in his career. The best season for Ezukanma came in 2020, when he had 748 yards and six touchdowns. Ezukanma had 705 yards and four touchdowns this season. Ezukanma is the second Texas Tech player to declare for the 2022 draft, which will be April 28-30 in Las Vegas. The other is offensive lineman Dawson Deaton. Texas Tech (6-6) is scheduled to play Mississippi State (7-5) in the Liberty Bowl on Tuesday. - AP College Football

Texas Tech wide receivers Erik Ezukanma and Kaylon Geiger were named to the watch list for the Biletnikoff Award on Thursday. This is the first time the Biletnikoff Award, which is presented annually to the nation's top receiver, regardless of position, has placed two Red Raiders on its watch list since 2013 when Eric Ward was a preseason candidate and Jace Amaro was added early in the season. Amaro was a semifinalist for the award.

It's the second career appearance on the watch list for both receivers as Geiger was a 2020 preseason candidate at Troy, while Ezukanma was added later in the season after turning into one of the Big 12's top wideouts as only a sophomore. Ezukanma closed the 2020 season with 748 receiving yards and six touchdowns off 46 catches en route to becoming the first Red Raider underclassman to lead the team in receiving yards over back-to-back seasons since Michael Crabtree in 2007-08. - Lubbock Avalanche Journal

Erik Ezukanma last year put together the best season statistically by a Texas Tech freshman wide receiver in the past decade. He might not have been sensational right from the start, and in fact he wasn't, but over the second half of the season it was plain to see why Tech coach Matt Wells started raving about Ezukanma months before. The talent is there, and Ezukanma began to assert himself more and more as the year went on. Now he's been involved in enough college football to know what his next step needs to be. "Being more aggressive as a receiver," Ezukanma said recently. "DBs, they're going to grab you, they're going to hold you, but you've got to be aggressive. You've got to knock them off you. You've got to be a dog on the field. I gain all this weight; I've got to use it."

The 6-foot-3 sophomore from Keller Timber Creek is up to 213 pounds, more than 30 pounds heavier than when he first arrived on campus in 2018. That's after what Wells recently called the Red Raiders' "first real off-season of real lifting and conditioning and things that we do" under strength and conditioning coach Dave Scholz. Ezukanma has gotten bigger while remaining trim and sculpted. "I feel a lot more lean," he said. "I feel like I can run a lot faster. We've been working on speed in the off-season, so I feel like I'm a lot faster now than what I was." - Lubbock Avalanche Journal
