2021 ALL-BIG TEN HONORABLE MENTION (COACHES): Peyton Hendershot,...Indiana redshirt senior tight end Peyton Hendershot was named third-team All-Big Ten for the third-straight season, the conference announced on Wednesday afternoon. Hendershot is IU's car eer tight ends leader with 136 receptions and 1,479 yards. He ranks second with 14 touchdowns. The North Salem, Ind., native led the Hoosiers in 2021 with 46 catches, 543 yards, and four TDs. After a record-setting sophomore season in 2019, Indiana tight end Peyton Hendershot admitted he didn't play up to his standards in 2020. But with a full offseason in the weight room and a summer spent getting on the same page with quarterback Michael Pe nix Jr., Hendershot is eager to show he can be counted on for big catches in IU's offense. "I feel probably the best I've ever felt my entire life," Hendershot said. "My speed, my strength, everything." Hendershot credited an offseason working with IU st rength coach Aaron Wellman for his physical transformation. After playing at 265 pounds as a sophomore and 240 pounds last season, Hendershot entered fall camp at 252 pounds. "For a long time, I was really trying to figure out a good weight for me, a per fect weight," Hendershot said. "It's a really good weight for me, especially for running routes."IU tight ends coach Kevin Wright expects the increased strength this season to show up in Hendershot's ability to block in the run game as well. "He's always been able to catch the football," Wright said. "He's always had good ball skills. But I think that what you will see is one of the better blocking tight ends in the Big Ten, and I think that's just a byproduct of all the work he's put in in the o ffseason. He's just one of the strongest guys on our team in general. So good ball skills, he's stronger, he's more physical and just he's played like a veteran throughout camp." Indiana's receivers had a number of drops early before becoming more sure-handed as the game progressed. Tight end Peyton Hendershot overcame an early drop to finish with six catches for 34 yards and two TDs. "I was upset with myself because I only had o ne or two drops all last year, and I already have two drops," Hendershot said. "I am just letting the team down. My coaches said you are going to make plays, just don't think about it and move on. I just got lost in the game. I was not thinking about it anymore. When the ball was coming, I was not thinking about it anymore. It was not instinct. I felt lost in the game, and I just got going. Indiana tight end Peyton Hendershot has been cleared to rejoin the program and is fully with the team, IU coach Tom Allen said during a Zoom press conference Tuesday. In early June, Hendershot reached a plea agreement with the county prosecutor's office, pleading guilty to misdemeanor criminal trespass stemming from a February incident with an ex-girlfriend. Misdemeanor charges of domestic battery, criminal conversion and criminal mischief were dismissed. Indiana tight end Peyton Hendershot pleaded guilty to misdemeanor criminal trespass Tuesday in Monroe County Court. Hendershot was facing three other misdemeanors in connection to a February dispute with an ex-girlfriend, including domestic battery, crim inal conversion and criminal mischief. The latter three charges were dismissed as part of his agreement. Hendershot was sentenced to one year probation for the trespass offense, which is a Class A misdemeanor. He is also required to receive a mental heal th evaluation and participate in a batterers treatment program. Hendershot's sentence also includes one year in jail, but that sentence is suspended, with two days credit for time already served following his February arrest. Indiana tight end Peyton Hendershot has returned to team activities in a "modified way" following a previous suspension, IU coach Tom Allen said in a teleconference Wednesday. Hendershot, a rising redshirt junior, was charged in February with four misdem eanors - domestic battery, criminal trespass, criminal conversion, and criminal mischief - following an incident with an ex-girlfriend. According to court records, Hendershot has a pretrial conference scheduled for May 6. Allen said Hendershot has recent ly been involved with team and positional meetings. "For the rest of the spring here, once we got into this mode, (he) has been involved with some position meetings and team meetings. We brought him back in a modified way, back with our team," Allen said . "He's been involved with that. We continue to monitor the situation as he works through some things we don't have any control over."The 6-foot-4, 255-pound tight end was coming off of a breakout 2019 campaign where he set the program's yardage a nd receptions records for a tight end, hauling in 52 passes for 622 yards and four touchdowns. He was a third-team All-Big Ten selection. But on Feb. 23, Hendershot was arrested by Bloomington police after allegedly entering the apartment of the victim w ithout permission, accusing the woman of infidelity. He reportedly took her cell phone from her to look at calls and texts. When she tried to retrieve the phone, Hendershot "grabbed her by the neck and shoved her against the wall," according to police. H endershot then threw her phone into the kitchen as he left the apartment, breaking the screen, police said. - Herald Bulletin

Indiana coach Tom Allen has suspended record-breaking tight end Peyton Hendershot indefinitely. Monday's announcement comes less than two days after Hendershot was arrested. He allegedly entered the apartment of a former girlfriend without her permission . He also is accused of grabbing and shoving the woman, according to the police report. He faces preliminary charges of felony residential entry and three misdemeanors - domestic battery, criminal mischief and criminal conversion. A statement released by the team said the suspension will begin immediately. "(Allen) will continue to evaluate the situation pending further developments," the statement said. Last season, the 20-year-old redshirt sophomore set school records for a tight end with 52 reception s, 622 yards and four touchdowns. He was a third-team all-Big Ten selection by the media and received honorable mention honors from the league's coaches. - AP College Football
