University at Buffalo running back Kevin Marks Jr. announced Tuesday on his social media accounts that he will enter the NFL draft. Marks elected to forgo his final season of eligibility with the UB football program to turn pro. He joined the Bulls as a freshman in the fall of 2017, but redshirted that year. He had a remaining year of eligibility, which the NCAA granted to athletes in fall sports in August 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Marks leaves UB as its No. 5 all-time leading rusher in yards (3,035), fifth in carries (667) and tied for third all-time in rushing touchdowns (33). - Buffalo News

  08/16/21 - RB Kevin Marks Jr.rSr/2022, Buffalo, 5-11, 200 (DS#53 RB) + More +

Kevin Marks Jr. isn't ready to go into why he chose to enter the transfer portal in January, or why he chose to withdraw and return to the University at Buffalo football program. "This was the best choice for me," Marks said. "But I'll talk about it more later down the road." What Marks, a running back with the Bulls, is ready to discuss - and can't discuss enough of - is how he has prepared for this season, and what he is learning under the tutelage of new running backs coach Mike Daniels. Marks is getting detail-oriented training as he continues to elevate his game. He's learning things that can help him be a successful running back. "Coach Daniels, he's teaching us a lot of things, from the front-to-front, what are we reading, the coaching points, what we see when we step to the line of scrimmage, the situation, the steps, the reads, the play calls, the down and distance," said Marks, a redshirt senior who ran for 741 yards and seven touchdowns on 112 carries in seven games for UB last season. "It's preparing in that way, the little things that make us a better player, so every play can be a good play, and we can make the right decision, in those moments in the course of a game."

Even as much of the country, including Western New York, continues to work through abnormal times due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Bulls returned to a routine and often spirited practice setting. It's another element in how Marks, who is UB's top returning running back, continues to evolve his game. He is currently seventh all-time in rushing for UB (2,621 yards) and sixth all-time in rushing touchdowns (28). UB is less than a week into its practices, but Marks' drive is already evident to first-year Bulls coach Maurice Linguist. "He is running the ball like he's trying to prove a point," Linguist said Monday during UB's football media day at Murchie Family Fieldhouse. "He's running the ball with a lot of conviction and confidence." - Buffalo News

The competition to replace Jaret Patterson has started, and while it's going to be difficult to fully replace one of the program's most prolific rushers, UB has a stable of options, starting with Kevin Marks. Marks has amassed 2,621 yards and 28 touchdowns in three seasons. He enters this season ranked seventh all-time in rushing yards and sixth in rushing touchdowns for the Bulls. This is his chance to become the bell cow back.

While there's depth behind Marks at running back, there isn't much experience. Ron Cook Jr. and Dylan McDuffie have combined for 401 yards and one touchdown on 76 carries in the last three seasons, and Tajay Ahmed, Kolbe Burrell and Caron Robinson have received minimal playing time. The Bulls also have several true freshman backs, including Al-Jay Henderson, Mike Washington and Jailen Nias. - Buffalo News

Kevin Marks, a running back on the University at Buffalo football team, announced Friday that he will partner with Playmaker Talent for future individual marketing involving name, image and likeness. "NIL is here. College athletes across the country are finally able to be fairly compensated through their endorsements," Marks posted Friday on his Instagram account. "I am proud to announce that I have partnered with @playmaker and @playmakertalent for this seasons marketing opportunities. I'm looking forward to building my brand while maintaining excellence on the field and in the classroom."

Marks is UB's top returning running back, and among the first UB athletes to publicly announce his alignment with a branding company for name, image and likeness (NIL) purposes. He has not yet announced if he has any business deals, and the NCAA requires a seven-day grace period for college athletes to file agreements or proposals with a third party with a school's compliance office. Over the weekend, at least two more UB athletes announced partnerships with a branding company. Hannah Sullivan, who runs track and field, and Kaitlyn Walsh, who plays soccer, have partnered with Barstool Athletics. Barstool Athletics is an arm of Barstool Sports, and helps college athletes amplify their brands. - Buffalo News

Marks is in position to be UB's top running back, after Patterson's departure. He is also in a spot to reaffirm his place on UB's roster. It appeared Marks would pursue a transfer to a Power Five program in January, but he withdrew his name from the NCAA's transfer portal nine days later. Marks ran for 741 yards and seven touchdowns in seven games in 2020, and is seventh in career rushing yards for UB (2,621 yards). He leads a group of running backs that includes Dylan McDuffie, Ron Cook Jr. and Kolbe Burrell. The running backs, however, have little experience behind Marks, so Marks' return will be key in UB's offense, which has thrived on the run in the last two seasons. UB was second in the nation in rushing last season at 287.4 yards per game. - Buffalo News

University at Buffalo running back Kevin Marks has withdrawn from the NCAA transfer portal. A UB athletic department spokesperson initially confirmed to The News on Monday that Marks no longer is in the portal. 247Sports and Rivals originally reported that Marks had withdrawn. Marks originally announced Jan. 9 that he had entered the portal. Marks was UB's second-leading rusher in 2020 as a redshirt junior. Marks, who will be a redshirt senior this fall, ran for 741 yards and seven touchdowns on 112 carries in seven games for UB last seasons. He's seventh all-time in rushing for UB (2,621 yards) and fifth all-time in rushing touchdowns (28). - Buffalo News

The University at Buffalo football team now faces the future without two of its top running backs, two weeks after it played its final game of the season. UB running back Kevin Marks announced Saturday that he will enter the NCAA's transfer portal. Marks was the Bulls' second-leading rusher as a redshirt junior last season. Marks, a 6-foot, 205-pound native of Norfolk, Va., ran for 741 yards and seven touchdowns on 112 carries, and is seventh all-time in rushing for UB (2,621 yards) and fifth all-time in rushing touchdowns (28). Marks scored the game-winning touchdown in UB's 17-10 win against Marshall in the Camellia Bowl on Dec. 25 in Montgomery, Ala. - Buffalo News

Kevin Marks looked like a super sub early, stalled against a stingy defense and then delivered the decisive blow. Marks scored on a 1-yard touchdown run with 1:09 left after a clock-eating drive and Buffalo made a final defensive stop to beat Marshall 17-10 in the Camellia Bowl on Friday. Subbing for the national leader in rushing yards per game, Jaret Patterson, Marks carried 35 time for 138 yards for the Bulls (6-1) against one of the nation's top run defenses. Buffalo milked more than six minutes off the clock on the final 13-play, 88-yard drive. Quarterback Kyle Vantrease took a knee on first down and coach Lance Leipold even considered calling for a second one for a team that had only made its first field goal of the season in the first half. - AP College Football
