It was easy to pick out a player of the game with Tre Turner catching seven passes for 187 yards and a touchdown to lead Virginia Tech to a 26-17 win at Georgia Tech Saturday. But embattled Hokies head coach Justin Fuente suggested that the junior wide r eceiver was window dressing. Virginia Tech snapped a three-game losing to break even in the ACC on the strength of four field goals by John Parker Romo, Turner's dazzling day, a big fourth-down stop with the Hokies' backs nearly to their own goal line an d a smash-mouth game plan. The Hokies rushed 53 times for 237 yards, and as Georgia Tech geared to stop the run in the first half, Virginia Tech kept throwing the ball over the heads of the Yellow Jackets on the way to a 20-7 halftime lead. Braxton Burmeister completed 15 of 25 passes, 254 yards and two touchdowns for Virginia Tech, and Turner racked up a career high in receiving yards. The Hokies gained 199 of those passing yards in the first half. Thomas had rushed for 103 yards, Raheem Blackshe ar for 83, and Burmeister for another 46 even after losing 19 on sacks. - Virginia Tech/AP College Football

Tre Turner caught seven passes for a 187 yards and one score to lead Virginia Tech to a 26-17 win at Georgia Tech on Saturday as the Hokies snapped a three-game losing to break even in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Georgia Tech (3-5, 2-4 ACC) toyed with a comeback in the second half, but couldn't overcome a first half in which the Yellow Jackets allowed Virginia Tech (4-4, 2-2) - the next-to-last ranked offense in the conference at 329.7 yards per game - to match that yardage on the way to a 20-7 lead. Braxton Burmeister completed 15 of 25 passes for 254 yards and two touchdowns for Virginia Tech, and Turner was far and away his go-to guy as the junior racked up a career high in receiving yards.Georgia Tech running back Jahmyr Gibbs rushed for 113 yards, and very nearly gave the Yellow Jackets the lead late only to slip on wet turf. Each team threw an interception in the second half, but Virginia Tech won the game in a two-play sequence over the end of the third quarter and the beginning of th e fourth. First, after Georgia Tech pulled to within 23-17, Gibbs broke through a gaping hole over right tackle for what looked like possible 81-yard touchdown run. He had one last defender to worry about, a safety coming from the middle of the field wit h an angle. Gibbs made cut, but it didn't hold on a field slickened by intermittent drizzle on a cool, gray day. A few plays later, Georgia Tech coach Geoff Collins opted to go for it on fourth-and-1 from the Virginia Tech 12. The Hokies held. - Virginia Tech/AP College Football

Tre Turner scored second half touchdowns rushing and receiving, helping Virginia Tech rally to a 24-17 victory over Furman on Saturday. The Hokies (2-1) trailed 14-3 at halftime, but scored on their first two possessions of the second half to grab the le ad. Turner's 29-yard touchdown run with 5:04 remaining sealed the win. "I told the team at halftime, 'We're down by 11 points, and we have control over how this goes,'" Virginia Tech head coach Justin Fuente said. "We can hang our heads and sulk, or we c an stand up and can go compete and do our best to rectify what happened in the first half. I don't know that we wholly rectified it, but we at least found a way to get it done."Virginia Tech tailback Keshawn King, making his first collegiate start , rushed for 119 yards. His 54-yard run on the second play of the second half to set up a 3-yard touchdown run by James Mitchell that cut the Furman lead to 14-10. A fumble by Furman's Devin Wynn on the ensuing possession was costly, with the Hokies conv erting on Ryan Willis' 2-yard touchdown pass to Turner with 8:12 left in the third. That score put Virginia Tech in the lead for good. - AP College Football
