When wide receiver Emeka Emezie decided to take advantage of an extra year of eligibility granted by the NCAA after a season lost to a global pandemic, N.C. State was the beneficiary, returning its top pass catcher from last season. With Emezie back for a fifth season, the Wolfpack returns nine of its top 10 receivers from 2020. The only missing piece - and it's a big one - is 6-foot, 7-inch tight end Cary Angeline, who is currently in preseason camp with the Arizona Cardinals. Angeline caught 27 passes for 410 yards a year ago, a safety blanket for N.C. State quarterbacks in the red zone. Even with Angeline gone, quarterback Devin Leary returns a group of wide outs who combined for 222 of the 252 passes caught last season. That group includes the top three receivers from last season: Emezie (47-738), Thayer Thomas (42-529), and Devin Carter (29-477). - Raleigh News Observer

Emeka Emezie was upfront about returning to college for another year: school is kicking his butt right now. The N.C. State wide receiver is taking a full course load and it hasn't been easy. "Class is tough," Emezie said. "I'm taking six classes right now. I'm not going to lie, school is tough." Emezie could be preparing for the NFL draft. The Wolfpack wide receiver had a solid four years at N.C. State - 169 career receptions (fifth in school history), 2,093 yards (seventh in school history), 13 touchdowns. He's played in 48 games and started 32.

At 6-3, 212 pounds, Emezie was the favorite target of quarterbacks Devin Leary and Bailey Hockman, leading N.C. State with 47 catches and 738 yards in 2020. Emezie could have left school as one of the more decorated wide receivers in Wolfpack history and could have been picked in the upcoming draft or invited to an NFL training camp this summer. But Emezie is coming back to N.C. State for more. Taking advantage of the NCAA ruling 2020 as a zero year due to the coronavirus pandemic, Emezie made the decision in December to return to N.C. State. He'll be one of the 'super seniors' along with defensive end Daniel Joseph, offensive tackle Tyrone Riley and wide receiver Eric Collins. Emezie and Joseph were both full-time starters in 2020. - Raleigh News Observer

N.C. State finally got some good news about a player who is staying and not leaving. Emeka Emezie, the team's leading receiver last season, is taking advantage of the NCAA's zero year rule and returning to Raleigh for a fifth season. In his first four seasons, Emezie caught 169 passes for 2,409 yards and 13 touchdowns. He led the team in receptions (47), receiving yards (738) and was second in receiving touchdowns. Of N.C. State's top five receivers a year ago, four will return in 2021. - Raleigh News Observer

Former Marvin Ridge High star Emeka Emezie had one of the biggest catches of his career Saturday, which helped N.C. State rally to beat nationally ranked Pittsburgh on Saturday. Emezie, a 6-foot-3, 220-pound senior, caught a touchdown pass from Devin Leary with 25 seconds left in the Wolfpack's 30-29 win over No. 24 Pitt. It was Leary's fourth touchdown pass of the day and came after the Wolfpack converted a fourth-and-9 earlier in the drive, which covered 79 yards on eight plays in just 81 seconds. Emekie's catch - and Leary's back-shoulder throw - helped N.C. State bounce back from an embarrassing 45-24 loss at Virginia Tech last week. Emezie, whose parents are from Nigeria, finished with seven catches for 101 yards and two touchdowns. - Raleigh News Observer
