Bryant isn't the only former Auburn player to reunite with Malzahn as running back Mark-Antony Richards, receiver Nate Craig-Myers and defensive back Marco Domio were among the 13 players to transfer to UCF this offseason. When Bryant arrived on campus this summer, he attacked everything with the mindset of getting better. "When I got here, I went all gas, no brakes," Bryant said. "For the first month I got here, I worked out every day like Sunday through Sunday. When I got here, it was like I can't waste a day. I don't want to look back and wish I had done more." Bryant's drive and determination were infectious to his new teammates.

"From Day One since he got here, he's brought leadership," defensive lineman Kalia Davis said. "He came from an SEC school. He's an old head, so he's bringing in wisdom and leadership. There were days when we were working out and [strength and conditioning] Coach [Chris] Dawson was getting tough on us, but he was eating it up. He was telling us, 'Hey, don't give up, man.' "He's done a lot for us." Malzahn wasn't the least bit shocked that Bryant would make an impact with his new team. "He stepped right in, which I expected him to do," added Malzahn. "He stepped right in from a leadership role. He's kind of one of those guys that's respected because of what he's done on the field. He's got leadership ability. He's a hard worker, and I believe he's earned the respect of his teammates in a short period and that didn't surprise me at all." - Orlando Sentinel

Big Kat Bryant didn't shy away from an opportunity to take a swipe at his former team. The former Auburn defensive lineman, who is now at UCF for his final season of eligibility, was asked Tuesday during the Knights' pre-fall camp media day about how he thought UCF's roster stacked up to those of SEC teams from a talent perspective. Bryant, who spent four seasons playing in the SEC, believes the Knights compare favorably to at least some teams in the SEC -- including his former one.

"Right now? I mean, we'd beat somebody like Auburn, for sure," Bryant told reporters. "We'd beat Auburn, for sure." Bryant let out a laugh as he gave his response, but the former four-star prospect out of Cordele, Ga., quickly doubled down on his assertion about where his new team stands in comparison to college football's premier conference. "It's a lot different, a lot of different players and caliber guys, but I ain't going to lie, we'd beat a team like Auburn, Ole Miss," Bryant said. - Birmingham News

A third former Auburn player is transferring to UCF to reunite with former Tigers coach Gus Malzahn. Defensive end Big Kat Bryant, who entered the transfer portal in January, announced Tuesday that he has committed to UCF, where Malzahn was named head coach last month. Bryant will be immediately eligible as a grad transfer for the Knights. The former four-star prospect spent the last four seasons at Auburn, appearing in 48 games during his career on the Plains. He was named one of four team captains last season, along with quarterback Bo Nix, linebacker K.J. Britt and running back Shaun Shivers. - Birmingham News

Less than a week after Auburn's Big Kat Bryant announced he had entered the transfer portal, the senior defensive end has found a new home. Bryant announced Saturday he is transferring to Tennessee for his final season of eligibility. Bryant becomes the second defensive lineman to transfer from Auburn after Daquan Newkirk announced he was leaving for Florida on Thursday. Bryant's decision to transfer to Tennessee will reunite him with former Auburn defensive coordinator Kevin Steele, who the Volunteers hired as a defensive assistant earlier this week. - Opelika-Auburn News

Auburn defensive linemen Big Kat Bryant and Daquan Newkirk plan to play college football in 2021; it just might not be as Tigers. Bryant and Newkirk announced Sunday they are entering the transfer portal as they weigh their options for the 2021 season. In entering the portal, both could ultimately return to Auburn for one final season of eligibility or instead suit up for another team come next fall. Bryant graduated from Auburn this December, which means he would be immediately eligible wherever he chooses to play. - Dothan Eagle

Senior defensive end and team captain Big Kat Bryant, who was limited during the Tigers' season-opener against Kentucky due to an ankle injury, said he is "feeling great" after Auburn's first practice of the week. Bryant injured his ankle during practice last week and, after warming up pregame on Saturday, did not start against the Wildcats. In fact, Bryant didn't see the field the entire first half of Auburn's 29-13 win, but he gave it a go in the second half, though his snaps were still limited after halftime. Bryant finished with just one tackle, though his insertion into the lineup at times during the second half provided Auburn's shorthanded defensive line with a boost.

Bryant recorded his lone tackle on the first play he saw the field--a stop of Kentucky running back Kavosiey Smoke at the UK 2-yard line after Bo Nix pinned the Wildcats deep with a pooch punt. The Tigers nearly recorded a safety on that defensive possession but settled for forcing a three-and-out after the Wildcats lost 1 yard on the drive. Bryant, a native of Georgia who nearly signed with the Bulldogs, expects to be closer to 100 percent for Saturday's trip to Athens, Ga. No. 7 Auburn (1-0) will take on No. 4 Georgia (1-0) at 6:30 p.m. CT, with the game airing on ESPN. "I'm feeling great, man," Bryant said Tuesday."...I'm feeling pretty good, and I'm definitely going to play on Saturday, so I'm looking forward to it." - Birmingham News

2021 SENIOR BOWL WATCH LIST: Big Kat Bryant, Auburn,...Bryant, a defensive end, tallied nine quarterback hurries, 16 tackles and two tackles for loss as a junior in 2019. His 83-yard fumble recovery was a key play in Auburn's season-opening win vs. Oregon. - Auburn Football

Bryant was a key contributor on Auburn's defensive line in 2019, but Derrick Brown and Davidson stole the spotlight with their highlight reels. As one of two returning starters on the line, Bryant has a huge weight on his shoulders. Since returning to practice, he's played three positions - buck, defensive end and defensive tackle - while preparing the young players for Auburn's high expectations of the defensive line. In his senior season, Bryant wants to carry on Brown and Davidson's legacy while making his own mark. "He wants to leave as good as they did," said Shelton Felton, Tennessee's outside linebackers coach and Bryant's high school coach. "He just wants to be great. Be the best leader on and off the field, just be Big Kat and show people why he's a top recruit."

Bryant wants to be a dominant pass rusher who can make the play on every down. He's hesitant to set specific goals with the uncertainty surrounding the season, but he said he wants 10 sacks. Last year, Bryant was just a step away from making big time plays, and it showed in his stats. While Bryant only had 1.5 sacks, he recorded nine quarterback hurries, the most on the team. In the spring, Bryant went to work out with NFL players where he learned more about his footwork and how to use his hands. Bryant found a trainer during the quarantine to help him with "shaving off that tenth of a second." "He invested in himself," Felton said, and it paid off. "He's got himself quicker. He got himself leaner." - Birmingham News
