Before Saturday, the Cowboys hadn't recorded a shutout since an 84-0 win over Savannah State in 2012. Savannah State was in the Football Championship Subdivision at the time. Texas Tech entered the game averaging 33.6 points and 440.6 yards of total offense per game. OSU held the Red Raiders to 108 total yards. - AP College Football

Malcolm Rodriguez cracked a little smile and leaned in toward the microphone. "Two thirty-five," he said confidently on Thursday afternoon at Big 12 Media Days at AT&T Stadium. Two years ago, Rodriguez played linebacker for Oklahoma State weighing just over 200 pounds, so you can understand why he takes pride in his new weight. His move from safety to linebacker was out of necessity back then. Safety was stocked with talent and linebacker was thin. The move was surprising at first, but it made sense when you saw Rodriguez on the field, even as an undersized linebacker.

But now, he's got the bulk to better take on blockers and ball carriers alike, while maintaining the speed that made him stand out at the position in the first place. It all adds up to a big score for Rodriguez, who will be a focal point of the Cowboy defense once again this season. The biggest reason for Rodriguez's added weight can be attributed to his willingness to do the work that strength coach Rob Glass asks of him. - Daily Oklahoman

A year ago in preseason camp, Oklahoma State's Malcolm Rodriguez was forced into action as a linebacker after playing safety the previous two seasons. He totaled 103 tackles and became a reliable force in the middle of the defense, despite playing most of the season around 210 pounds. But Rodriguez spent the offseason focused on developing his body to better handle the pounding a linebacker can take near the line of scrimmage. "I'm pushing almost 230, so I've gained a little bit of weight since last year," the 5-foot-11 senior said. "The game goes a lot faster when you're up there at linebacker, so now I'm used to seeing all those pulls (by offensive linemen) and everything. The feet are better. - Daily Oklahoman

Linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez is the second known Oklahoma State football player to test positive for COVID-19. Rodriguez, a Wagoner native, announced on Sunday that he had tested positive after returning to campus earlier this month. He said on his Twitter page that he is asymptomatic. Rodriguez is the second OSU linebacker to announce a positive test, joining Amen Ogbongbemiga. OSU football players began returning on June 1, with testing for all players, coaches and staff members two weeks ahead of voluntary workouts. Cowboys senior associate athletic director Kevin Klintworth tweeted that the university tested more than 150 people that day, "with 3 asymptomatic positives. All by (student-athletes). Positives were expected and the plan for that scenario has been activated. We will be as forthcoming as possible on the covid issues." It's unclear if Rodriguez is one of those three positive tests, but he's stressing caution. - Daily Oklahoman
