Elorm Lumor, Towson, Player News

Elorm Lumor is ready. The world learned Lumor had his eligibility reinstated by the NCAA last week, but there was never an official word on where he was physically in the process. That came Monday. Lumor being named one of the starting defensive ends was not a surprise, but it does suggest he will be ready to play in Week 1. It was not clear when his surprise return was announced when exactly he returned the program as an active participant. Now the Scarlet Knights need to keep their best pass rusher he althy. - Star Ledger

Greg Schiano is not the only guy coming back to Rutgers under unexpected circumstances this fall. Elorm Lumor, who was the Scarlet Knights' best pass rusher the last two seasons before declaring for the NFL draft, has returned to the program. He was a su rprise inclusion when Rutgers released its updated team roster on Monday with less than two weeks until its season opener at Michigan State on Oct. 24. Lumor signed with an agent after entering the draft pool in January and did his pre-draft training at TEST Football Academy in Martinsville. But he appears to have been granted an NCAA waiver reinstating his eligibility after going undrafted and unsigned. There is precedent for Lumor's situation, but not much. The NCAA restored Arizona State punter Michael Turk's eligibility in June after he also signed with an agent and went undrafted and unsigned. And Turk participated in the NFL Scouting Combine, while Lumor did not get an invitation and then had his pro day canceled due to the coronavirus pand emic. Lumor had one year of eligibility remaining when he left Rutgers in January. The Piscataway native tied for the team lead in sacks in each of the last two seasons, notching three sacks in 2019 and four in 2018. Lumor also led the Scarlet Knights in tackles-for-loss in 2018 with seven. - Star Ledger
