2021 ALL-BIG TEN SECOND TEAM (COACHES): Center Doug Kramer, Illinois,...Kramer has been one of the most consistent offensive linemen for the Illini and in the Big Ten in the last five seasons. He was an All-Big Ten honorable mention selection in each of the last two seasons and was the No. 8 graded center in the nation in 2019 by PFF. This season Kramer graded as the No. 24 center in the nation and No. 5 in the Big Ten by PFF. Kramer will leave Champaign No. 3 in Illini history in career starts, behind only his teammates Vederian Lowe and Alex Palczewski. - Illinois Football

Keith Randolph Jr. and Seth Coleman, both redshirt freshmen, played significant snaps for the Illini this season. Wide receiver Josh Imatorbhebhe, offensive lineman Kendrick Green and linebackers Milo Eifler and Jake Hansen have all declared for the NFL Draft while offensive linemen Alex Palczewski, Vederian Lowe and Doug Kramer Jr. announced they'd return for an extra year. - Herald-Review Times

On Oct. 29, two days before the Purdue game, Illinois center Doug Kramer got hit with the double-whammy: 1) You can't play. And 2) Your teammate/roommate Brandon Peters has COVID-19. Talk about your all-time bummer. "I was fully prepared to play against Purdue and I was super excited after a tough Week 1 (loss at Wisconsin)," Kramer said Monday afternoon. "It kind of hit me like a brick wall. There was not much I could really do about it. Obviously, I was super disappointed when it happened because I wasn't going to be able to be out there with the team. I looked at (Kendrick Green) and (Vederian Lowe) and (Alex Palczewski) and just said, 'You guys can step up and do whatever you can to try to win these next two games."

Kramer, who had to miss the Oct. 31 game against Purdue and the Nov. 7 game against Minnesota because of contact-tracing protocols, admits he got angry about having to sit. "Definitely at the start just because you don't really have a lot of control over what happens," Kramer said. "It's kind of the way it has to be. You can do all the right things and all it takes is one positive test and four guys who have been doing the right thing the entire time since we came back have to sit out for two games in their senior season." - News Gazette Tribune

On Wednesday, the fourth-year starter was named to the Rimington Award Watch List, which goes to the nation's top center. He is the leader of a talented, experienced group of linemen, with four starters back for the second consecutive season. Kramer missed the Redbox Bowl with an injury and it hurt the team's offense in a 35-20 loss to Cal. He is healthy now and showed off his strength during the offseason by pushing his black pickup truck down the street. He also tossed beer kegs in the front yard of his Hinsdale home. Impressive stuff. His work ethic and dedication should keep Kramer among the most important Illini this season. - News Gazette Tribune

Even with Brandon Peters and Josh Imatorbhebhe, the unit won't run well without solid work from the offensive line. The guy that keeps it together is center Doug Kramer. Hurt late in the season, Kramer was missed in the bowl game. Kramer is crucial not only for his physical ability, but also his leadership. He was not a highly-touted recruit when he signed with Bill Cubit in early 2016, but he was on my first-team All-Big Ten ballot after 2019 and I suspect he will be again after this season. - The News-Gazette
