 Ryan Bowman, Washington, Player News

  01/02/21 - DE Ryan BowmanrSr/2022, Washington, 6-0, 277 (DS#43 DE) + More +

Ryan Bowman provided a literal and figurative lift for the Huskies on Thursday. Washington's fifth-year senior tweeted a video of the 6-foot, 280-pound outside linebacker successfully squatting 685 pounds, along with the following caption: "All I can think about is going on a rampage with the Dawgs in 2021". When asked if the tweet indicates that Bowman will definitely be back for a sixth season next fall, he responded: "I'll be back 100%." That's bad news for opposing offenses. In 42 career games on Montlake, the Bellevue product and former walk-on has collected 102 total tackles, as well as 25.5 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, four forced fumbles and one interception. In his last full season, he produced 34 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and a pick in 2019. - Seattle Times

  10/16/20 - DE Ryan BowmanrSr/2022, Washington, 6-0, 277 (DS#43 DE) + More +

In an undeniably young room, Bowman is the elder statesman (and a guaranteed starter). The former UW walk-on produced a quietly prolific 2019 season - stacking up 34 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and an interception in 13 games. And he did it while also shifting inside on passing downs. "I'm just a defensive lineman, honestly," Bowman said, when asked to define his role. "I play any position on the line and always try to make things happen and always try to be explosive wherever I'm at. You can literally put me anywhere."

In a shortened senior season, the Huskies might take him up on that offer. At 280 pounds, Bowman is quick enough to rush the passer and strong enough to stuff the run. And nasty enough to portray the attitude Kwiatkowski wants from his outside linebackers. "The legacy I want to leave is that we're the most physical dudes on the team," Bowman said. "We want to be real hard-nosed, bad, nasty dudes. That's just how we're all going to be in that room. Under Coach K, it's easy to be like that, because that's the mentality that he brings, and we manifest off that energy and all our dudes are like that. "That's the legacy I'd like to leave for the outside backers, and just as a leader, be nasty as hell." - Seattle Times
