This January, like every January in recent years, the stay-or-go decisions of underclassmen go a long way into shaping the roster of Georgia and other big-time college football programs. Georgia got a boost when nose guard Jordan Davis, offensive lineman Jamaree Salyer and running back Zamir White returned and took a hit when cornerbacks Tyson Campbell and Eric Stokes declared for the NFL draft. Maybe just as important to the experience and depth on the 2021 Georgia season are decisions by offensive gua rd Justin Shaffer and three other seniors to return for another season.Shaffer joined defensive linemen Devonte Wyatt and Julian Rochester and wide receiver Demetris Robertson in delaying pursuing a pro career. They took advantage of an extra year of eligibility offered by the NCAA because of the pandemic. "It was a tough decision," said Shaffer, who announced his plans a week after the Bulldogs' Peach Bowl win. "I feel like I had a lot that I needed to come back and prove. Also, it gave me a cha nce to come back and graduate and get my degree." Georgia's four so-called "super seniors" in the SEC are fewer than only two of Alabama and Auburn, according to the Associated Press. Missouri led the way with 12 followed by Tennessee with 11 and Ole Mis s and Arkansas with 10 each. - Athens Daily Banner
