Definitely the highest profile transfer addition to the Blue Raiders roster this offseason, Hockman is a quarterback with experience in two ACC programs, most recently NC State, where he started nine games last season, tossing the ball for 2,088 yards an d 13 touchdowns. "Bailey is super talented," Brent Stockstill said. "He can throw it all over the field." "(Hockman) can spin it," Polly said. "When you see it come out of his hand, it looks like it's supposed to." As Polly notes, the quarterback job is there for the taking, and Chase Cunningham, who's shown flashes in relief of former QB Asher O'Hara in recent years, and Mike DiLiello, who's likely the best rushing threat of the three, will certainly have the opportunity to make the starting job there. But Hockman, with his cannon of a left arm, is already impressing just from a distance on the practice field. "He makes us a better team just by being here and bringing what he brings to our unit, to our team," Polly said. "For us up front, protec ting him sitting in the pocket and going through his reads, him and the other guys competing with him, it was a really fun spring." - Middle Tennessee Football

When quarterback Asher O'Hara entered the transfer portal in December, Middle Tennessee suddenly had a need for a new starting signal caller. Returners Chase Cunningham and Mike DiLiello immediately entered into the battle for the starting spot, but wide receiver CJ Windham helped head coach Rick Stockstill bring in one more name to add to the mix. The senior wideout has quite the chemistry with the newcomer, too. "As soon as Bailey went into the portal, I immediately hit up Coach Stock and told him thi s is something we need to make happen," Windham said. "This is one of those things you can't draw up...and an opportunity we couldn't pass up on." Bailey Hockman is a redshirt junior southpaw who's gained experience the last few years playing for Power 5 programs Florida State and North Carolina State. Before he was a heralded true freshman in 2017 at FSU, where he spent a season with Blue Raider running back Amir Rasul, he starred under the Friday night lights at powerhouse McEachern High School in Pow der Springs, Georgia, an Atlanta suburb on the northwest side. Hockman was one of the best high school quarterbacks the state of Georgia has ever seen. - Middle Tennessee Football

N.C. State was going to have a crowded quarterback room next season one way or another. A seat just opened up in that room. Bailey Hockman, the Georgia native who started nine games in the 2020 season, announced on Twitter Wednesday morning he was enteri ng the transfer portal. "This university and program has done so much for my life as (an) athlete and man," Hockman wrote. "I want to personally thank coach Doeren and coach Beck for helping me become a better person on and off the field." In 10 games, H ockman led the team in passing with 2,088 yards and 13 touchdowns. Hockman also threw 11 interceptions this season, including three in the Wolfpack's 23-21 loss to Kentucky in the Gator Bowl on Jan. 2. In 17 career games at N.C. State Hockman passed for 2,185 yards. It's been an up and down two seasons in Raleigh for Hockman, who started his career at Florida State. He was beat out by redshirt sophomore Devin Leary in fall camp for the starting job, but it was Hockman, not Leary, who started the opener against Wake Forest. - Raleigh News Observer

Bailey Hockman needs no introduction. The redshirt junior quarterback has played in several games so far at N.C. State. But with the emergence of redshirt sophomore quarterback Devin Leary, who has started the Wolfpack's last three games, it looked like Hockman could be a reserve the rest of the season. However, after Leary was carted off the field in the second half of N.C State's win over Duke on Saturday and had surgery to repair his fibula the next day, Hockman will be back on the field for the Wolf pack. Leary is expected to miss 4-8 weeks to recover and coach Dave Doeren said he doesn't anticipate him returning this year.Hockman, who's 6-2 and 200 pounds and is from Powder Springs, Ga., started two games in 2019 and the first two games of t he 2020 season. He'll now be the starter Saturday when the No. 23 Wolfpack (4-1, 4-1 ACC) heads to Chapel Hill (3-1, 3-1) to face off with No. 14 UNC. "I can't say enough about guys who stepped up in their roles," Doeren said. Hockman entered the game ag ainst Duke after Leary was injured. N.C. State was up by one. Hockman led the team on a scoring drive, tossing a nine-yard touchdown to redshirt junior wide receiver Thayer Thomas to start the fourth quarter. Hockman only threw seven passes against the B lue Devils, completing four, for 43 yards as N.C. State relied on the run game with a double-digit lead late in the game. Against the Tar Heels, though, much more will be expected of Hockman, who has appeared in 10 games for the Wolfpack, with mixed resu lts. - Raleigh News Observer

There will be no surprises to who will take the snaps under center when N.C. State takes on Virginia Tech this Saturday in Blacksburg. Bailey Hockman, who started the Wolfpack's 45-42 season-opener against Wake Forest this past Saturday, was listed over Devin Leary on N.C. State's two-deep depth chart released Monday. Hockman, a transfer from Florida State, completed 70 percent of his throws against the Demon Deacons, finishing with 191 yards passing and a touchdown. Leary beat out Hockman for the start ing spot in the spring, but missed 20 practices due to COVID-19 contract tracing and fell behind Hockman in the quarterback battle.Against Wake, Hockman also connected with nine different receivers. Leary was available to play, but Hockman took al l the snaps under center. At his weekly press conference on Monday, Doeren said Leary would be available again this week, but Hockman has the job for now. "We're going to need both of them," Doeren said. "We're one injury/COVID test away from having a di fferent player at every position. We need our quarterbacks to be elite." Leary did practice last week, but Doeren said Hockman would "continue to be our starter until Devin is in position to play." - Raleigh News Observer

North Carolina State is changing quarterbacks and will start Bailey Hockman this week against Syracuse. Coach Dave Doeren said Monday that Hockman and backup Devin Leary "are giving us more in the pass game." Former starter Matthew McKay is listed as the third-stringer for the Wolfpack (3-2, 0-1 Atlantic Coast Conference). McKay started the first five games but was replaced by Hockman after three series of the 31-13 loss at Florida State. McKay completed 3 of 7 passes for 20 yards before Hockman took ov er and was 21 of 40 for 208 yards with a touchdown. Leary completed 4 of 5 passes for 54 yards after Hockman, who started his career at Florida State, tweaked his knee late. - AP College Football
