For the fifth time in the past 10 years, no Arizona Wildcats were selected in the NFL draft, which concluded Saturday. That figure is easily the highest in the Pac-12. It was also the second time in the past three years that no UA players were picked. La st year, two Wildcats went with back-to-back selections in the sixth round - defensive tackle Roy Lopez (Houston Texans) and running back Gary Brightwell (New York Giants). Only one other Pac-12 school, Colorado, failed to have a player selected this yea r. UCLA led the league with six picks, starting with tight end Greg Dulcich, who went to the Denver Broncos in the third round. Arizona State and Washington tied for second with four selections apiece. ASU had its most picks since 2015 (also four). Orego n and Utah - who squared off in the Pac-12 Championship Game - each had only one player selected. But both were first-round picks (Kayvon Thibodeaux, Devin Lloyd). The Arizona Wildcats' best player is planning to take his game to the next level. Veteran receiver and Tucson product Stanley Berryhill III announced Thursday that he is entering the 2022 NFL draft. Berryhill had a career year as a fifth-year junior this past season. He became just the sixth Wildcat to catch 80-plus passes in a season, ranking second in the Pac-12 with 83 grabs for 744 yards and a touchdown. He led the Wildcats in yards from scrimmage (865), served as their primary punt returner and was their most effective punt gunner. - Tucson.com

The most notable aspect of Stanley Berryhill III's career-best performance in the season opener wasn't what he did but how he did it. The veteran Arizona receiver notched personal highs with 12 catches for 102 yards against BYU last week. That shouldn't be surprising given that Berryhill led the team in receiving last year and had a stellar offseason, earning the coveted No. 1 jersey. The fact that 83 of his yards came after the catch? That's a big deal.Berryhill conceded that in the past he woul d look to avoid contact and head to the sideline after securing the ball. "Try to take the least hits as possible," Berryhill said Tuesday. At the urging of his new coaches, Berryhill changed his approach this offseason. With their words - "We don't run out of bounds. SB3 will be wearing No. 1. Veteran Arizona receiver Stanley Berryhill III has earned the right to wear the No. 1 jersey for the Wildcats, his father posted on Facebook. Nine players were in the running for the number, which was to be awarded based on aca demic achievement, community service, workout attendance and on-field performance. First-year coach Jedd Fisch said it was possible two players could wear No. 1 - one on offense, one on defense - but Berryhill is the only known recipient. Entering his fi fth season, Berryhill is Arizona's leading returning receiver. Berryhill had 23 catches for 227 yards and three touchdowns in five games. Yet another Arizona wide receiver has run a reverse. Stanley Berryhill III, the Wildcats' leading pass catcher in 2020, announced Tuesday that he's returning to the UA. Berryhill took it a step further than the others, committing to Ball State last month before changing his mind. "The timing of the whole situation wasn't right," Berryhill told KVOA in an interview that aired Monday night. As Ball State prepares to face San Jose State in the Arizona Bowl on New Year's Eve, the Cardinals didn't have to look far for an addition at wide receiver for the 2021 season. Former Arizona Wildcats slot receiver and Tucson native Stanley Berryhill, an nounced Monday evening on Twitter his decision to transfer to Ball State of the Mid-American Conference. Berryhill was one of several players to leave the UA football program after the dismissal of Kevin Sumlin, who was replaced by Jedd Fisch. Berryhill led the Wildcats with 23 catches for 227 yards and three touchdowns this season, and finished his UA career with 756 all-purpose yards and eight touchdowns.
