 Zamir White, Georgia, Player News

  10/02/21 - RB Zamir WhiterJr/2022, Georgia, 6-0, 217 (DS#5 RB) + More +

Zamir White rushed for two touchdowns and recovered a blocked punt for another score, and No. 2 Georgia pounded No. 8 Arkansas 37-0 on Saturday in the Bulldogs' second consecutive shutout. Georgia (5-0, 3-0 Southeastern Conference) raced to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter despite playing without quarterback JT Daniels, who was held out with a right lat injury. Stetson Bennett filled in for Daniels and passed for only 72 yards as the Bulldogs relied on their running game and top-rated defense to beat Arkansas (4-1, 1-1). Georgia, leading the nation in total defense and scoring defense following last week's 62-0 win at Vanderbilt, held Arkansas to 10 first downs and 156 yards.

The Bulldogs rushed for 273 yards while continuing their committee approach at running back. James Cook had 87 yards on 12 carries. Kenny McIntosh had 57 yards. Kendall Milton ran for 48 yards, including a 1-yard touchdown. White had scoring runs of 3 and 15 yards. He finished with 68 yards on 16 carries. Georgia stretched its lead to 21-0 when Dan Jackson blocked Reid Bauer's punt and White fell on the ball in the end zone. Daniels was in uniform, but he missed his second game of the season after testing the injury in pregame warmups. An oblique injury kept Daniels out of the Bulldogs' 56-7 win over UAB on Sept. 11. Arkansas also had quarterback questions after KJ Jefferson missed most of the second half of last week's win over Texas A&M with a bruised left knee. Jefferson returned for the final drive and had the knee wrapped while starting against Georgia. Jefferson completed 8 of 13 passes for 65 yards. Malik Hornsby took over at quarterback in the final quarter. - Georgia/AP College Football

  01/15/21 - RB Zamir WhiterJr/2022, Georgia, 6-0, 217 (DS#5 RB) + More +

Georgia running back Zamir White, who rushed for 779 yards and 5.4 yards per carry this past season, announced Wednesday afternoon that he will be returning to Athens for his redshirt junior season. White has endured two ACL surgeries during his career - on his right knee as a high school senior and on his left knee that scratched his freshman season with the Bulldogs in 2018. The 6-foot, 210-pounder from Laurinburg, North Carolina, rushed for 408 yards and 5.2 yards per carry during the 2019 season, earning his first start for Georgia in the 26-14 victory over Baylor in the Sugar Bowl. - Chattanooga Times Free Press

  10/31/20 - RB Zamir WhiterJr/2022, Georgia, 6-0, 217 (DS#5 RB) + More +

Zamir White and fifth-ranked Georgia ran with relative ease to start each half, reaching the end zone both times. Other moments were more of a scrum for the Bulldogs, who emerged dinged but glad to have won again by making those limited chances stand up against Kentucky. White rushed for a career-high 131 yards and a touchdown, Stetson Bennett also ran for a score and Georgia beat the Wildcats 14-3 on Saturday for its 11th straight win in the series. The Bulldogs (4-1 Southeastern Conference) improved to 5-1 after byes under coach Kirby Smart. Georgia's 215 yards on the ground nearly outgained the Wildcats' total yardage (229). Bennett completed 9 of 13 passes for 131 yards with two interceptions. White carried 26 times, also a career best, including a fourth-and-1 burst for an easy 22-yard TD and double-digit lead early in the third quarter. Bennett's 2-yard score capped an 86-yard, 12-play initial drive that set the tone for Georgia's control of the line of scrimmage on its limited possessions. - Georgia/AP College Football

After some tough sledding in the season opener, White found his groove against Auburn. He finished the night with 19 carries for 88 yards, an average of 4.6 yards per carry. The redshirt sophomore also collected a pair of touchdowns, bullying his way into the end zone twice from the one-yard line. The game plan got White involved early, as he toted the ball 17 times for 76 yards and both scores in the first half. The Bulldogs got other backs involved after halftime with the big lead, but White set the tone for the game. - Macon Telegraph

The team's moniker of "RBU" will be put to the test after losing D'Andre Swift as a second-round draftee of the Detroit Lions. Georgia will feature Zamir White and James Cook in the backfield with underclassmen Kendall Milton vying for playing time. Each of the backfield mates are confident to give production in a new offensive scheme. - Athens Daily Banner

  06/22/20 - RB Zamir WhiterJr/2022, Georgia, 6-0, 217 (DS#5 RB) + More +

In a decade filled with special running back talent, White arrived in Athens carrying perhaps the most fanfare of all recent Georgia backs. Sporting the mythological nickname of Zeus and a high school highlight tape to match, everyone around the program eagerly anticipated White's debut. Then he tore his ACL in a scrimmage prior to the 2018 season, missing the entire campaign. He slowly became more involved as last season went on and culminated his first year of collegiate action with a 18-carry, 92-yard performance in the Sugar Bowl.

Now, White looks primed to fill the 1A running back role that has been occupied by D'Andre Swift the past two seasons. Georgia's stockpile of talent will allow for plenty of rotation as always, but White will likely receive the lion's share of carries. Will he be able to hold up and live up to the expectations placed on him before he even arrived in Athens? Only time will tell. - Macon Telegraph

  08/11/19 - RB Zamir WhiterJr/2022, Georgia, 6-0, 217 (DS#5 RB) + More +

Georgia fans have longed for a chance to see running Zamir White in a game and after the team's first scrimmage of preseason camp on Saturday, it appears that he's getting closer to making an impact. White, who suffered a second torn ACL covering a punt in a preseason scrimmage one year ago, was a healthy participant on Saturday Georgia coach Kirby Smart said. Not many details of the scrimmage were made public, but White's presence was felt during the scrimmage that was interrupted for about 30 minutes due to lightning in the area.

White has had contact throughout preseason practices, Smart said, but the scrimmage was a major hurdle in his recovery. "He's had some live before today because we've done some periods of things throughout, we just haven't had a live scrimmage," Smart said shortly after the scrimmage ended at Sanford Stadium. "I thought he was really contact tough. He was running behind his pads, had a couple of short yardage runs that were crucial third-and-1s, fourth-and-1s. He was able to churn it out and get first downs." - Athens Daily Banner

Nearly 12 months after Zamir White's much anticipated first Georgia season ended abruptly before it began, the running back is getting a chance to show what he can do on the football field. "Man, Zamir is a workhorse," inside linebacker Monty Rice said Friday before Georgia opened preseason practices with White expecting to take part fully. "I think in practice and this camp it's going to show a lot what he has done and what he has overcome. We're on for a show."

The 6-foot, 210-pound White sustained a torn ACL in his left knee covering a punt in an August scrimmage and has spent the last year working his way back. "He's doing well, he's ready to go out there and compete," coach Kirby Smart said. "Excited to have him out there and he's excited to be back. ...Zamir is cleared. We'll do everything like normal. He'll be thudded (contact without brought to the ground) just like every other back will be thudded and we'll progress from there. We don't tackle mostly live until the first scrimmage." - Athens Daily Banner

It's only summer workouts, but Kirby Smart can't help but be encouraged by the glimpses he sees of Zamir White 11 months since the running back sustained a torn ACL. "I'm excited every time I get to see him in workouts," Smart said Tuesday at SEC Media Days. "We're doing workouts with our players right now, agilities and four stations, five stations, six stations. Seeing him get out there and whether it's cone-to-cone, cutting on something, it excites me seeing him do that because I know what he's been through."

Smart termed White, the five-star running back from North Carolina who redshirted after sustaining the injury in a non-contact drill last August on punt coverage, as being "on the upward side of that hump," after a second ACL injury. Georgia will start preseason practices in a couple of weeks. "He's on schedule," Smart said. "We're excited about where he is. He's done everything we've asked him to do. I am thrilled at how hard he works and the things he's been able to do. Our expectation is he comes out and competes every day and earns some playing time." - Athens Daily Banner
