Linebacker Blaze Alldredge has already made a strong impression on the coaching staff, so much that he earned his jersey number before his first official practice. The graduate transfer from Rice will wear No. 25, which has been a linebacker tradition at Mizzou for more than a decade since the passing of Aaron O'Neal in 2005. Jamal Brooks had worn 25 for the last four years but transferred to South Alabama this offseason. MU's other newcomers wore blank jerseys Friday. - Post-Dispatch

Blaze Alldredge has never met Nick Bolton. Alldredge, a Rice graduate transfer, steps into the linebacker room at Missouri after the December departure of Bolton, a former All-American and current Kansas City Chief. Both changes of scenery appear to have been the right moves. Alldredge brings a veteran presence to a relatively inexperienced MU position group, and Bolton is turning heads at training camp with two straight days of interceptions off Patrick Mahomes this week in 7-on-7 play. "It's definitel y big shoes to come in and try and fill," Alldredge said Thursday of Bolton's influence. "But the truth is, that was a big factor in my decision. I wanted to come to a place that had experience with great linebackers and sending guys to the league. And t he great thing about it has just been that nobody wants me to be Nick Bolton."Obviously he's a great linebacker. Everybody understands that I'm my own player. I have my own identity, my own style. And the truth of the matter, like I've told a lot of guys, is that we have a great defense. I don't need to come in and be Superman and try and save the day or anything. I just need to come in and be myself, which time has shown is a pretty good college football player, and just make sure that I get lin ed up and help other guys get lined up and let everybody play ball." Alldredge is confident like Bolton and has the credentials to back up his words. As an Owl, he won the George Martin Award twice, given to Rice's team MVP, the first defensive player in school history to win the award in consecutive years. - Columbia Daily Tribune
