Former Miami Hurricanes tight end Michael Irvin II will be staying in South Florida for his redshirt senior season. Irvin, the son of the UM legend and NFL Hall of Fame wide receiver by the same name, announced on Monday night that Florida Atlantic will be his transfer destination after deciding he would move on from Miami in March. Irivn, a St. Thomas Aquinas High grad like his father, heads to the Owls as a graduate transfer, immediately eligible for the upcoming season, FAU's first under new coach Wi llie Taggart. Irvin played in all 13 games for the Hurricanes last season, making three starts, but had only two catches for 33 yards. He missed all of the 2018 regular season recovering from a knee injury but played in the Pinstripe Bowl loss to Wiscons in.Irvin had his best season at UM as a sophomore in 2017, when he had nine receptions for 78 yards. He played sparingly as a freshman in 2016 on special teams. His time with the Hurricanes ended in the one week Miami held spring football practice s before the coronavirus pandemic put a stop to all college athletic activities. Not present for UM's first two spring practices, Irvin announced he was entering the transfer portal by the third. "I have had a riddled college football career so far which is why I have made this decision very carefully," Irvin wrote on Twitter on Monday night. "With that being said, I have learned a lot and would not change my experience and the relationships I have made throughout the process. University of Miami tight end Michael Irvin II, the son of former Hurricanes great and Pro Football Hall of fame member Michael Irvin, is transferring for his final season of college football. UM confirmed the news to the Miami Herald on Thursday morning . Irvin II is no longer on the UM roster. It's hard to blame him for wanting to transfer. Ahead of him is top tight end Brevin Jordan, a possible future NFL first-rounder, as well as extremely talented backup Will Mallory. Irvin was hardly going to get r eal playing time in his only season left in college. Irvin, a redshirt senior, started three games last season. His career numbers: 11 catches for 111 yards in 31 games. He played in 13 games and had two catches in 2019 for 33 yards. - Miami Herald
