Here's how long JoJo Domann has been around the Nebraska football program: as a freshman, he forced a fumble in the 2016 Music City Bowl against Tennessee. Five years later, Domann is the only player on Nebraska's roster who saw the field in that game, w hich just happened to come at the end of the final year the Huskers won nine games in a season. It wasn't exactly a sprint to the finish that year. NU started 7-0 and finished 9-4 with a 38-24 loss to Tennessee in Nashville. But nine wins is nine wins, a nd 9-4 would certainly seem to be appealing considering what has happened in the years since. "Those men expected to win. Those dudes were confident, and they practiced like it, and we played like it," Domann said of the seniors on that team. "There was no what-ifs. They were expecting to win every game. And the senior leadership is huge, and just creating that momentum for the rest of the team to follow suit."So it's a lot of responsibility, but this is the moment I've been waiting for, and I'm ready for it." Domann is the senior now - a sixth-year senior, thanks to the extra year granted him because of the COVID-19 pandemic. He's gone from making an important play in a bowl game to trying to lead his final college team back to the postseason f or the first time. There have been coaching changes and player transfers, lost games and a pandemic. And now, a final chance for the linebacker from Colorado to leave his mark. "For me personally it's was just the leadership aspect. Trying to get everyon e on the same page, same mission. Really trying to build a football team and everything that entails," Domann said. "So I love each guy in the locker room, and I'm really excited for us to come together and hopefully get some wins this fall." - Lincoln J ournal Star

Domann, the 6-foot-1, 230-pounder, played every snap over eight game s for the Huskers in 2020 and finished with a career-best 58 tackles (6½ for loss). He also broke up five passes, forced to fumbles and recovered one. The Bronco Nagurski Trophy is given by the Football Writers of America annually to the nation's top de fensive player. The 6-foot-1, 235-pound Colorado native is one of the team's most explosive defenders and plays a critical - and demanding - hybrid position. He possesses the size of an NFL inside linebacker but also has the ability to move to the perimeter and play rec eivers in coverage, says Mike Dawson, Nebraska's outside linebackers coach. Yes, that's an extremely valuable combination in this day and age, or in any day and age. It's why Domann seldom came off the field last season, playing either his outside lineba cker spot or his role as a nickel in sub-packages. It's largely why he led the team with 58 tackles while tying cornerback Dicaprio Bootle for the team lead in pass breakups with five. It's why he's one of a handful of Nebraska players deemed most critical to a program hoping to make a marked improvement on last year's 3-5 record. He said last spring that he mostly just focuses on becoming at least 1% better at his craft every day. Doing the little things leads to big things, his coaches tell him. "It's tackling, getting off blocks, coverage, pre-snap reads, post-snap processing," Domann said. "I can always get better and get to the ball faster and make more of an impact on the game in all those ways." - Lincoln Journal Star

The first Nebraska athletes to put on a camp after the start of the name, image, and likeness era in college sports went into effect are learning as they go while getting ready to teach. "It's not quite as simple as our naïve brains thought it was," NU defensive lineman Ben Stille said with a chuckle. "But it's been good. There's a lot of moving parts, for sure." Husker football defensive lineman Ben Stille, and linebacker JoJo Domann will host the camp Saturday from 8:30-11 a.m. at the Speedway Sports Complex at 345 Speedway Circle in Lincoln. The camp is open to boys and girls ages 7-14. Registration is $49 per participant or $59 for walk-up registrations. Scholarships are available for underserved kids who want to attend. Stille and Domann will don ate some proceeds from the camp to the Food Bank of the Heartland. - Lincoln Journal Star

Summer's in full swing - just look at the thermometer - and with it comes the annual parade of preseason watch lists for various college football awards. It kicked off Thursday, and Nebraska outside linebacker JoJo Domann earned a nod as a preseason cand idate for the Lott IMPACT Trophy, which honors standout defensive players. Domann (6-foot-1 and 235 pounds) turned himself into a consistent playmaker in 2020 and is going to be counted on as one of the stalwarts of a veteran defense again this fall. The versatile defender played every snap for the Huskers in eight games last year and compiled 58 tackles (6½ for loss), two forced fumbles and five breakups. That was good enough to earn honorable mention All-Big Ten. - Lincoln Journal Star

Mike Dawson summed up JoJo Domann's immense value to Nebraska's football team rather well last week. In doing so, Dawson may have opened up the ears of some NFL folks, if they weren't already aware of Domann's versatility. The 6-foot-1, 235-pound Domann possesses the size of an NFL inside linebacker but also has the ability to move to the perimeter and play receivers in coverage, said Dawson, Nebraska's outside linebackers coach. Yes, that's an extremely valuable combination in this day and age, or in a ny day and age. It's why Domann seldom came off the field last season, playing either his outside linebacker spot or his role as a nickel in sub packages. Outside linebacker JoJo Domann announced Saturday afternoon that he is returning to Nebraska next year and will take advantage of the extra year of eligibility granted to all players by the NCAA due to the coronavirus pandemic. That, of course, is a majo r boost for the Blackshirts. Domann not only led Nebraska in tackles (58) and tied for the team lead in tackles for loss (6½), but he's a versatile player who in 2020 showed himself capable of holding up against the run and also playing in coverage. He tied senior cornerback Dicaprio Bootle for the team lead with five pass breakups, and forced two fumbles and recovered one while playing in all eight games. Domann's return is made even more significant by the fact that NU lacks depth at outside lineback er overall. Assistant coach Mike Dawson helped the group develop in 2020 and NU saw progress from players such as junior Caleb Tannor and sophomore Garrett Nelson, but nobody else in the room had shown so far the capability of being an every-down player like Domann was. - Lincoln Journal Star

He ranked second on the team with 11 TFLs, six pass breakups and two forced fumbles and fourth with 2.5 sacks, all of which were career highs. - Nebraska Football

Nebraska outside linebacker JoJo Domann's explosiveness on the field has become evident to anyone who's watched him play in college. He's a ball of energy and often brings it full-force, sometimes resulting in big plays. But his coaches want more product ion from the 6-foot-1, 235-pound senior. "I think he can be a lot better, and that's something I've talked to him about," Nebraska defensive coordinator Erik Chinander said earlier this week as the Huskers' spring practice season started. Since Matt Lubi ck joined the Huskers in early January, head coach Scott Frost has consistently used the words "organization" and "detail."A native of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Domann was among the most productive players for Nebraska's defense last season, ran king second on the team in tackles for loss (11), pass breakups (six) and forced fumbles (two). His 52 tackles were fifth-best on the squad. One could say Domann's switch to outside linebacker - after playing primarily safety during his first three years on campus - was a success in an individual sense. Now that Domann has reached his senior year, and has a stronger handle on his role, Chinander will ask more of him. Chinander wants Domann to be more verbal in helping position teammates. What's more, th e coach wants fewer mental errors. - Lincoln Journal Star
