 Ben Davis, Texas, Player News

  08/06/21 - OLB Ben DavisrSr/2022, Texas, 6-4, 237 (DS#50 OLB) + More +

The Longhorns have added that big-game experience in the form of three transfer linebackers. Alabama's Ben Davis won two national championships with the Crimson Tide. Ray Thornton earned a championship ring at LSU. Ovie Oghoufo played on last year's Notre Dame team that made the College Football Playoff semifinals. "They come from places that have won championships," Coburn, in his fourth season, said of the newcomers. "All they did was bring that and brought it to Texas and showed us ways of how to be a champion."

After Steve Sarkisian's hire in January, Texas added only four high school prospects to its 2021 recruiting class on national signing day in February. He instead used the transfer portal to solidify the depth chart. Thornton transferred in January. Later that month, Oghoufo announced that he'd join the Longhorns as a grad transfer. Davis transferred in April. None of the three were stars at their previous schools. Thornton recorded five tackles last season. Davis totaled three. Oghoufo had 22 tackles and 2.5 sacks over his last two years with the Fighting Irish. - Austin American Statesman

A former Alabama linebacker is set to join Steve Sarkisian at Texas. Ben Davis, the one-time five-star recruit who was a backup for the Crimson Tide last season, announced Monday that he's transferring to Texas. Davis was the top-ranked player in Alabama's 2016 recruiting class but was never able to carve out a starting role with the Tide and entered the NCAA transfer portal in February. The Gordo product played in 11 games as a backup last season and finished the year with three tackles. - Birmingham News

  02/15/21 - OLB Ben DavisrSr/2022, Texas, 6-4, 237 (DS#50 OLB) + More +

A local prep star who came to Alabama with high expectations announced Monday he intends to explore options elsewhere. Ben Davis, the No. 10 overall recruit in the class of 2016, said he entering the NCAA transfer portal in a Twitter post. AL.com confirmed his name appeared in the portal shortly after making the announcement. The Gordo High School graduate will be using the extra year of eligibility granted to every player participating in the 2020 season. It would have been his fourth and final season on the NCAA clock after he redshirted his freshman season of 2016. Davis appeared in 24 total games and recorded seven tackles in a reserve role. - Birmingham News
