|
Arkansas defensive lineman John Ridgeway had an appendectomy performed over the weekend, and his status on a return to practice is not known, a source with knowledge of the situation said Sunday. Ridgeway, a 6-5, 320-pounder who had been working with the first unit much of camp, posted a picture of himself in a hospital room late Saturday with his girlfriend to his Instagram story. A source with knowledge said Ridgeway was scheduled to be released from the hospital on Sunday. Ridgeway's status for the s eason opener on Saturday against Rice is questionable. The Razorbacks have not released a depth chart, but Ridgeway, a graduate transfer from Illinois State, has worked with the first unit at tackle, as has Isaiah Nichols, Eric Gregory, graduate transfer Markell Utsey and others. - Northwest Arkansas Times

Prior to the start of training camp, Arkansas coach Sam Pittman said that a player the program brought in from the transfer portal would not start for him on Day 1. But if he quickly proves capable of contributing to the Razorbacks in key ways, Pittman s aid, there was a chance he would start the next day. John Ridgeway, Tre Williams and Markell Utsey - Arkansas' three defensive line additions via the NCAA transfer portal this offseason - are in solid position to potentially start as of Thursday, the tea m's first day of full pads.Ridgeway, a 6-6, 320-pound tackle from Illinois State, tied for the team lead with 22 tackles over four games in the team's 2021 spring season. A four-year letterman and Illinois state champion in wrestling, he adds phys icality, toughness and edge to the Razorbacks' front line. "Those are great guys," Arkansas linebacker Bumper Pool said. "Ridgeway, he's a big dude. He comes off the ball fast. I think a few linebackers today were talking about just the kind of dynamic e xplosiveness he's got. I'm excited to see it. "Those guys are going to help us tremendously." - Northwest Arkansas Times
