Daniel Imatorbhebhe, Kansas State, Player News

Daniel Imatorbhebhe seemed like a sure thing to start at tight end this season after transferring in from Illinois. The 6-foot-4 and 240-pound playmaker gained all kinds of buzz during preseason camp and seemed to build an instant report with quarterback Skylar Thompson. Some have called him a more athletic version of Briley Moore, who added a new element to K-State's offense by catching 22 passes for 338 yards and three touchdowns last season. Expectations remain high for Imatorbhebhe, but he won't start against Stanford if the Wildcats begin the game with only one tight end on the field. Senior Nick Lenners, not Imatorbhebhe, is listed as the team's top tight end on the depth chart. Imatorbhebhe is actually in a tie for the top backup along with Sammy Wheeler. - The Kansas City Star

Daniel Imatorbhebhe took a far more circuitous route to Manhattan. He originally signed with Florida out of high school. He went through spring practice with the Gators in 2015 before transferring to Southern California. He remained in Los Angeles through the 2019 season before transferring to Illinois. Now, he's a Wildcat. The program just hopes he can come close to replicating what Moore brought to the table last season. Moore caught 22 passes for 338 yards and three touchdowns despite missing one game last fall. His three touchdown catches tied for the team high, while his yardage and reception totals ranked second. If Imatorbhebhe ends anywhere in the vicinity of those numbers in 2021, his season will be viewed as an unmitigated success. - Manhattan Mercury

Five players officially joined Kansas State's football program this week with the virtual start of the university's spring semester. The quintet of newcomers - defensive backs Julius Brents and Russ Yeast, linebacker Eric Munoz, defensive tackle Timmy Horne and tight end Daniel Imatorbhebhe - began their careers elsewhere. Brents played at Iowa, while Yeast started at Louisville. Munoz previously played at Utah State, with Horne starring at Charlotte. Imatorbhebhe has taken the most circuitous route to Manhattan. He spent last season at Illinois and played at Southern California in 2016 and 2017. - Manhattan Mercury

Just seven months after his long-awaited return, tight end Daniel Imatorbhebhe is leaving USC. Imatorbhebhe entered the NCAA transfer portal as a graduate transfer this week, closing the door on a frustrating, injury-prone tenure with the Trojans. Imatorbhebhe began his career at Florida, but soon transferred to USC, where he burst onto the scene as a redshirt freshman during USC's 2016 run to the Rose Bowl. The tight end caught four touchdown passes over the season's final eight games, emerging as a favorite red-zone target of quarterback Sam Darnold. But nagging groin and hip injuries followed him from there, sapping him of his effectiveness as a sophomore, before robbing him of an entire season in 2018. The following summer, USC listed him as a "squadman lost," and coach Clay Helton announced that Imatorbhebhe would leave the team to "focus on finalizing his master's degree." - Los Angeles Times
