There was no particular moment during the 2020 season when Jackson Carman knew it would be his last year at Clemson. Shortly after the Tigers lost to Ohio State in the Sugar Bowl, Carman made the choice to turn pro and enter the NFL Draft. Carman officially announced his choice on Jan. 6 after talking it over with people close to him. "Just felt like I was ready physically and mentally and maturity wise," Carman told The State. "Feel like this is a good opportunity for me. I still have the ability to get my degree and everything. So I think it was the right move for me."

Carman has been training in Dallas as he prepares for the NFL Draft and for Clemson's Pro Day, which takes place on Thursday. He's been focused on improving all areas of his game while working out in Dallas. "I feel like for me personally there's not one singular thing that I feel like is the biggest deficiency," Carman said. "I feel like every single part of my game needs work, and I'm working on every single part - whether it's physical, technique, mental. Every single thing I'm putting in tons of effort and work towards building myself holistically as a player." - The State

Clemson's best and most experienced offensive lineman is leaving for the NFL. Left tackle Jackson Carman announced Wednesday night that he is entering the NFL draft. Jackson, a former five-star recruit, was named second-team All-ACC this past season. The Ohio native was a two-year starter for the Tigers, starting all 15 games in 2019 and all 12 games this year. Carman declared for the NFL draft the same day that Tigers star quarterback Trevor Lawrence announced that he is also turning pro. - The State

Clemson had four of its five offensive linemen named preseason All-ACC. The only one who wasn't - Jackson Carman. The 6-foot-5, 355 pound former five-star recruit is physically intimidating and appears ready to move into former Clemson All-American Mitch Hyatt's spot at left tackle, but Carman needs to get in better shape during fall camp and improve his mobility to ensure that he earns the starting spot.

Tigers offensive line coach Robbie Caldwell said in mid July that Carman is being pushed by former Dorman offensive lineman Jordan McFadden. The redshirt freshman had an impressive year in practice in 2018 and had a strong spring and summer. Whether he earns a starting spot or not, McFadden is likely to receive plenty of playing time this season. - The State
