UK's Max Duffy, the 2019 Ray Guy Award winner as college football's best punter, was excellent as normal. He averaged 44.9 yards per punt on eight punts, downing three inside the opponents' 20-yard line. He booted three punts of at least 50 yards. Missis sippi State punter Tucker Day might have been even better though, averaging 59.6 yards on five punts. Day had three punts of at least 60 yards, two of which were downed inside the UK 15-yard line. Bulldogs No. 2 punter Reed Bowman even contributed a 33-y ard punt from midfield that was downed at the Kentucky 13-yard line.Mississippi State's lone points actually came off a punting miscue with a bad snap from Kentucky long snapper Cade Degraw that Duffy was forced to kick out of the back of the end zone, resulting in a 48-yard loss and a safety. Duffy bounced back from that play by flipping the field with a 75-yard free kick. "He takes great pride in what he has to do," Stoops said of Duffy. "If everybody in your organization took the pride in his job like he does, you'd be really good. He really cares. He cares about his teammates. He cares about bailing us out when we're backed up. He loves that." - Courier Journal

OCT 12 SEC SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Max Duffy, P, Kentucky,...Made a huge impact in Kentucky's 24-2 win over Mississippi State...Placed three punts that were downed at the MSU 5, 11 and 2 yard lines...In the third quarter, a high punt snap saile d over his head into the UK end zone; instead of picking up the ball and running with it (which would have likely given MSU the ball near the UK goal line), he alertly booted the ball out of the end zone, giving up a safety instead of a possible touchdow n...On the ensuing free kick, he flipped the field by launching a 75-yard rocket that was returned only 11 yards, a net of 64 yards that had MSU starting at its own 16-yard line...For the game, he averaged 44.9 yards on eight punts, a solid average despi te having to kick three punts on short fields (note that the 75-yard free kick did not count in his punting average). - SEC Football

Coaches in the University of Kentucky athletic department have not openly discussed the notion of giving back some of their salary to the school, but it has "certainly" crossed the mind of football head coach Mark Stoops. "I'm prepared to give back," Sto ops told reporters during a video teleconference Friday morning. It was his first availability to the media since the Southeastern Conference canceled its spring sports season as part of efforts to limit the spread of COVID-19, or the coronavirus. "Chant el (Stoops' wife) and I have been active in this community for a long time, and it's really important for us to give back right now," Stoops said. "But it's also important we give back to the university if need be. We haven't talked about that."It 's probably too early right now, Stoops said, for UK's administration to determine the impact the pandemic will have on the next academic year, which begins in August. The NCAA announced Thursday that its annual distribution to Division I schools would b e $225 million, down from the $600 million total it had budgeted prior to COVID-19 disrupting its winter championships and spring sports seasons. Most of the NCAA's revenue comes from TV and marketing rights from the men's basketball tournament. The Sout heastern Conference in January evenly distributed about $651 million to its 14 member schools, a figure that included NCAA Tournament revenues from 2018 as well as money generated by the College Football Playoff and league championship events. - Herald L eader
