Former Miami Hurricanes placekicker Jose Borregales, a consensus All-American and winner of the Lou Groza Award as the top kicker in college football, "stopped looking" at NFL Draft projections of where and when and even if he'd be chosen in the draft - or just end up as most kickers do, an undrafted free agent. But Borregales isn't most kickers, and be assured his biggest fan, mom Vivian, was looking. "My mom tells me everything," Borregales said heading into the draft. "If my mom doesn't tell me, I ha ve no idea. I've basically talked to every team but you never know where you end up until you get that call." Borregales, 23, undrafted after the seven-round event ended Saturday evening, will nonetheless be heading to the reigning Super Bowl champion Ta mpa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent. - Miami Herald

Jose Borregales finally was wanted by the Miami Hurricanes. Beating them was all it took. The former FIU kicker - who played a huge role in the Panthers’ stunning upset win over the Hurricanes in November - announced in a tweet Sunday that he’s enrol ling at Miami as a graduate transfer. He’ll be on campus Monday, when the Hurricanes will be able to officially confirm his arrival. "UM has always been my dream school and still is," Borregales said in a telephone interview. "I was raised here in Miam i. I watched them play growing up. It was pretty much a straightforward decision on where I was going."Hundreds of players transfer each year, but Borregales' story stands out for many reasons. Borregales made it known in his high school days that he wanted to play at Miami; the Hurricanes ignored him, so he committed to FIU in 2015 and has "had a chip on my shoulder ever since," he said. His brother, Andres Borregales, is committed to Miami and is scheduled to be part of the school’s 2021 recr uiting class. - AP College Football
