In what will most likely be the final game played at Aloha Stadium, Team Kai edged Team 'Aina 15-13 in the Hula Bowl on Sunday night. Coastal Carolina's CJ Marable took home offensive MVP honors for Team Kai after carrying the ball five times for 17 yard s and a 2-yard touchdown. It was Team Kai's lone touchdown of the game, as the rest of their points came on three field goals from Laval University's David Cote. Notre Dame's Nic McCloud was defensive MVP for Team Kai after picking off two passes for a t otal of 34 return yards. - Khon2

Senior running back C.J. Marable has moved into second place on the all-time CCU career rushing list, and he's only getting stronger this season. The quick and shifty 5-10, 200-pound senior passed Aundres Perkins (2003-06, 2,343 yards) to move into secon d with 2,528 rushing yards in less than three full seasons at CCU, and trails former NFL RB De'Angelo Henderson, who had 4,635 yards in four seasons from 2013-16. The Cougars (9-1, No. 13 CFP) were a late-week fill-in, traveli ng more than 2,200 miles to the South Carolina coast and eagerly stepping after No. 25 Liberty had to back out of the game Thursday due to COVID-19 concerns. It sure looked like an uphill climb for Coastal (10-0), the Sun Belt East champs, as BYU entered with one of the game's most dynamic passers in Zach Wilson and the fourth-highest scoring offense in the country at more than 47 points a game.But the Chanticleers controlled the clock with three long touchdown drives and made plays when it count ed - none bigger than when the freshman safety Sudipo corralled Milne a few steps from the end zone. It will go down as a 17-yard completion, but the Cougars needed 18 on their final play. That sealed Coastal Carolina's biggest victory in the program's f our FBS seasons. C.J. Marable ran for 157 yards and three touchdowns and No. 16 Coastal Carolina wrapped up the Sun Belt Conference East Division title with a 49-14 victory over Texas State on Saturday. The Chanticleers (9-0, 7-0) had 572 yards of offense in extending th eir winning streak to 10 games. They moved up to the Football Bowl Subdivision three seasons ago. Texas State (2-10, 2-6) closed its sixth straight losing season. It was the second-most points the Bobcats have allowed in regulation this season. Texas Sta te held a moment of silence for sophomore defensive back Khambrail Winters, who was fatally shot Tuesday what the San Marcos Police Department said was a drug deal gone wrong.Coastal took command early at Bobcat Stadium, scoring touchdowns on its first two possessions route to a 35-7 lead at the half. The Chants drove 81 yards on their opening possession for the game's first touchdown. Marable had five rushes for 67 yards in the seven-play drive, including a 14-yard scoring run 1:14 into the game . The senior running back followed that with a 9-yard scoring run on Coastal's second possession. The 45-yard drive was set up when Chants junior safety Alex Spillum forced and recovered a fumble. Coastal Carolina senior running back CJ Marable was one of three players named to the Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll, the Louisville Sports Commission announced on Monday. It marks the second time this season he has been recognized for the weekly honor ro ll, earning the first honor on Oct. 5 following the Chanticleers' win over Arkansas State (Oct. 3). Marable was joined on the honor roll by Khalil Herbert of Virginia Tech and Jaylen Waddle of Alabama. In the Chanticleers' 30-27 conference road win at No . 21 Louisiana (Oct. 14) last Wednesday, Marable led the way on the ground for the Chanticleers' offense with 73 yards and a score on 17 carries. The versatile running back also added three catches for 40 yards and a touchdown in the passing game and fin ished the game with 113 all-purpose yards. C.J. Marable could not have hand-picked a better opponent to reach a milestone against. Marable, who was shunned by Arkansas State in his recruiting process out of high school after committing to the Red Wolves, eclipsed 3,000 rushing yards in his colleg iate career Saturday. Marable gained 63 yards rushing with a touchdown on 15 carries and added four receptions for 25 yards and a touchdown. He now has 3,032 rushing yards in one season at Presbyterian in the FCS and three at the FBS level at CCU. He's j ust 6 rushing yards shy of 2,000 at Coastal. CJ Marable rushed for 121 yards and a touchdown and Coastal Carolina snapped a three-game skid with a 24-21 victory over Texas State on Saturday in the season finale for both teams. Marable topped the 100-yard mark for the sixth time this season and fini shed the season with 1,085 yards on the ground to become the fourth Chanticleer to accomplish the feat. Coastal Carolina (5-7, 2-6 Sun Belt Conference) took a 7-0 lead midway through the second quarter when backup quarterback Fred Payton hit Shadell Bell for a 1-yard score. It was Bell's only catch of the game. Texas State (3-9, 2-6) used just one play to pull even - Tyler Vitt's 64-yard scoring strike to Mason Hays on first down with 3:07 left in the quarter.The Chanticleers took a 14-7 lead in the third quarter when starting QB Bryce Carpenter connected with Isaiah Likely for a 28-yard TD with 3:42 remaining. Massimo Biscardi's 47-yard field goal early the fourth quarter stretched Coastal Carolina's lead to 17-7, but the Bobcats drove 67 yards in four plays - using a pass from wide receiver Hutch White to Vitt to pull within 17-14. CJ Marable crashed into the end zone in the final seconds of the game, then skirted around the left side for the 2-point conversion to give Coastal Carolina a 36-35 win over Troy on Saturday afternoon. The Chanticleers fell short on the initial conversio n try but Troy was called for pass interference in the end zone. Marable, who scored from the 3 for the touchdown, walked into the end zone on the next play for the victory. The Trojans still had 30 seconds remaining but were thwarted on a pass-and-later al play that fell far short. It was the first Sun Belt Conference win this year for Coastal Carolina (4-4, 1-3).Troy's Kaylon Geiger went up high over the defender to pull down a 23-yard scoring strike in the end zone for a 35-28 lead with 8:34 re maining in the final quarter. The teams traded punts before the Chanticleers mounted their 11-play, 71-yard winning drive. Bryce Carpenter threw for 285 yards and one score and Marable finished with 52 yards on 14 carries. Entering Saturday night's matchup between Kansas and Coastal Carolina, all eyes fell to the Jayhawks' Pooka Williams Jr. as he made his season debut following a single-game suspension, his offensive impact under new Kansas coach Les Miles eagerly anticip ated. However, a 148-yard, two-touchdown performance by Coastal Carolina's CJ Marable quickly gleaned the spotlight, exceeding the output of Williams and leading the Chanticleers to a 12-7 victory over the Jayhawks in David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium.
