Coy Cronk's first love was baseball. The larger he got, the more he gravitated towards football. It was the right move and one Cronk hopes provides his first post-college profession. The 2016 Central Catholic graduate declared for the upcoming NFL draft, signing with agent Neil Cornrich of NC Sports, LLC. The 6-foot-5, 305-pound Cronk spent this season at Iowa as a graduate transfer after playing offensive tackle for four seasons at Indiana. Because of the coronavirus, the NCAA instituted a policy that the 2020 season would not count against a student-athlete's eligibility, meaning Cronk could have returned next season for a sixth year. - Indianapolis Star/News

Indiana grad transfer Coy Cronk started at right tackle for Iowa but had uneven playing time there, with Mark Kallenberger spelling him a lot. Ferentz said it was more a coach's decision than a new injury. Cronk had ankle surgery last season and is still trying to get up to full speed, so to speak, because of it. "Coy just didn't look quite comfortable enough, so we'll go back to work Monday," Ferentz said. "He missed a lot of time, as I said, in the past, and he's still working through some things. But Coy is a tremendous guy. He's going to be a good player for us. I thought he was struggling a little bit." - The Gazette

Indiana has three former offensive linemen in the NFL, so it's not like Cronk couldn't have gotten there from Bloomington. But seven former Hawkeyes O-linemen are in the NFL including 2020 first-round draftee Tristan Wirfs of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. "W e lost a really good player in Tristan, who's doing really well right now," Ferentz said. "We lose a guy that you could really count on who had that experience level, it's nice to have another guy who's also pretty experienced. … We're thrilled Coy's h ere." Cronk is slotted as the starting right tackle Saturday. It's a homecoming, though not the one he could have had. It wasn't that Cronk had any bone to pick with Purdue's current coach."I ran into Brohm a few times being around Lafayette," Cro nk said. "He's a tremendous coach, he's a great friend, and more importantly, what he does for the community, which I respect a ton. What he's been able to do there and bring excitement back to life, that's been awesome." "When I decided to grad-transfer I just didn't feel like it was the right thing to go to Purdue. Just being a team captain at Indiana, just having the respect I do for Indiana, to me it didn't seem like the best move. "I really wasn't in the business of trying to disrespect anyone or a nything like that. It already was a tough decision and I didn't want to throw oil on the fire or anything like that." While the Hoosiers obviously didn't want to see a beloved and proven starting tackle leave, it would at least be a little consolation to them if he helped the Hawkeyes hang a home defeat on Purdue. - The Gazette

Hoosiers left tackle Coy Cronk was carted off the field less than six minutes into the game with what appeared to be a serious lower right leg injury. The fifth-year senior and team captain started all 40 games since arriving on campus - a streak that se ems likely to end next Saturday. He was hurt on Scott's 5-yard run with 9:09 left in the first quarter. He stayed down, immediately removing his helmet before trainers put an air cast on the leg and then some teammates ran over to wish him well as he was lifted onto the golf cart. - AP College Football
