So far, five Texas A&M football players have decided to opt out of playing in the 2020 football season. The two most noticeable were the more recent, junior wide receiver Jhamon Ausbon and junior linebacker Anthony Hines III. Aggie head football coach Ji mbo Fisher said every players' exit caught him by surprise, but with a global pandemic and racial injustice issues at the forefront of everyone's minds, he understands. "It always keeps you off guard because you hate to lose those guys," Fisher said Mon day on a Zoom conference. "But at the same time, all those things that have happened out there today, in this world and in recent times, there's so many things and the way they affect young men and the way they affect families and we don't always know th e family effects that they've had and what those families have dealt with."After initially announcing his intent to opt out of the season Sunday, Hines tweeted more information about his decision, saying he wouldn't declare for the NFL draft and p lans on playing in 2021. "I've lost someone very close to me and my family to COVID three weeks ago," Hines tweeted Monday. "I made the decision to opt out of this season due to concern for me & my family's safety, as well as to try and make an impact of f the field regarding social injustice. "I plan to uses this fall to focus on the last class I have left here at A&M and get active in my community," he continued. - Bryan/College Station Eagle

Many people have picked up new hobbies and activities while quarantined amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and Texas A&M linebacker Anthony Hines III put his passion for music into practice while staying at home earlier this year. In late spring, Hines posted t hree songs under the artist's name "BillisDead" to SoundCloud, an online audio and music sharing platform. He recently released a song titled SOPHISTICATED. Hines said he recorded the songs on his own. "I picked up a little music hobby," Hines said. "Tha t was just the nature of the pandemic, just a lot of time to yourself, a little bit of boredom, and I've always been a pretty good writer, so I just got to writing some music, and the rest is history." Hines draws some of his inspiration from 13-time Gra mmy award winner and rapper Kendrick Lamar. "I would say Kendrick Lamar is probably my favorite artist," Hines said. "Just the artistry, the word play and the creativity."Hines said he often sings in the locker room, and his voice has caught the a ttention of his teammates, too. During a luncheon prior to last year's Texas Bowl against Oklahoma State, Hines was called on stage in front of several hundred people as the team's best singer. Hines proceeded to sing an a cappella version of Vanessa Car lton's hit pop single A Thousand Miles with many teammates standing and singing along in the crowd. "If it wasn't for my brothers, I would have never sang in front of a big crowd like that," Hines said. "It was a fun time." - Bryan/College Station Eagle
