For the first time since the program was reinstated six years, and making its re-debut four seasons ago, the UAB football program has a player selected in the NFL Draft. Former UAB outside linebacker Jordan Smith was taken in the fourth round by the Jack sonville Jaguars with the 121st overall pick. Smith is the 15th player from UAB to be drafted and becomes the first selected since wide receiver J.J. DEC 14 CONFERENCE USA DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: UAB junior DE Jordan Smith had a team-high seven tackles and 2.5 sacks (-20 yards) to lead UAB to its third straight C-USA West Division title in a 21-16 victory at Rice. Smith stepped up when it matter ed most with two sacks in the final four minutes of the game, including one with only :13 seconds remaining.
