Even though Illinois receiver Josh Imatorbhebhe and linebacker Milo Eifler weren't selected in the 2021 NFL Draft, they still managed to find professional homes Saturday. Imatorbhebhe signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Eifler with the New York Jets shortly after the three-day draft's conclusion. The now-former Illini joined guard Kendrick Green (drafted in the third round by the Pittsburgh Steelers) and cornerback Nate Hobbs (drafted in the fifth round by the Las Vegas Raiders) in cracking the NFL ranks this week. Imatorbhebhe started 18 games across two seasons at Illinois, hauling in 12 receiving touchdowns along the way. - News Gazette Tribune

Illinois' leading wide receiver Josh Imatorbhebhe on Thursday announced he is entering the NFL draft and won't play in the team's final game of the 2020 season. His decision comes two days before Illinois is scheduled to play at Penn State and follows Su nday's firing of coach Lovie Smith. The Illini are just 2-5 this season, so even a victory in Happy Valley during "Big Ten Champions Week" would not give them a winning season. Imatorbhebhe, a redshirt senior who transferred from USC in 2019, has led Ill inois in receptions in his two seasons in Champaign. He caught 22 passes for 297 yards and three touchdowns this season. In 10 games last season, he grabbed 33 catches for 634 yards and nine touchdowns. - Chicago Tribune

Last year's leading receiver Josh Imatorbhebhe was targeted 10 times Friday night and caught three passes for 26 yards. Only tight end Daniel Barker, with three, had more than a single target. Peters looked to Imatorbhebhe early - and clearly often. "I w as just throwing to where my reads took me," Peters said. "I don't drop back and just look for one guy. The guys that I found in the second half were the guys that got open." Offensive execution - or lack thereof - was both Peters' and Smith's takeaway F riday night. That was never more clear than in Illinois' struggles on third and fourth down. The Illini converted just two of their 10 third down opportunities and put up an 0-fer in three cracks by the offense at fourth down. "We had a lot of errors," P eters said. "We shot ourselves in the foot with not converting on fourth down and penalties as well. We've got to stay ahead of the chains. We've got to move the chains. If you look at the time of possession, they killed us. It was bad. We've got to focu s on moving the chains, getting the first downs and executing. All those little things." - News Gazette Tribune

Peters returns his top four receivers, a group led by Josh Imatorbhebhe. The senior accounted for nine of Illinois' 19 touchdown receptions last season and averaged a whopping 19.2 yards per reception. "We definitely have our work cut out for (us) becaus e he's definitely not a body type that you see every day and the aggressiveness that he plays with is just a little bit different for some of the corners to see," UW defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard said of Imatorbhebhe, who had a 29-yard touchdown rec eption in the fourth quarter against the Badgers. "I like our group, I like the matchups we have, but he's going to have opportunities one-on-one in this game and we've got to win them downfield." - Wisconsin State Journal

Every time I have talked to Josh Imatorbhebhe in the last year, I get smarter. Illinois football's star receiver is thoughtful and insightful. He has seen college sports from multiple angles. So, it was no surprise to me last week when the 22-year-old Im atorbhebhe went to Twitter with his idea to have an NCAA Players Association. "We have absolutely no representation when it comes to decision making," Imatorbhebhe wrote. Of course, the reaction was swift. Some of it positive and encouraging, suggesting Imatorbhebhe lead the way. "Band together! Start one. You absolutely need a voice in all of this," one post read. "Y'all are speaking out and I love it. Do what you gotta do and we got your back!" tweeted another.Other comments were negative. "Don 't play bro, nobody is forcing you to get a free education and exposure. Walk away, get a better deal," one wrote. "Quit whining. You have it better then 90% of the people in the world, AND after college, if you take it seriously, you will have a great c areer with alumni always willing to help. You live in a bubble and have no clue," tweeted another. - News Gazette Tribune
