While Michigan had eight players taken in the 2021 NFL Draft, that meant three went undrafted. Two of them have since found a landing spot. Tight end Nick Eubanks inked an undrafted free-agent deal with the Dallas Cowboys late Saturday, while defensive l ineman Carlo Kemp signed with the Green Bay Packers, according to reports. In Dallas, the 6-foot-4, 245-pound Eubanks reunites with former Michigan tight end Sean McKeon, who went undrafted in 2020 and signed with the Cowboys shortly tafter. McKeon earne d a roster spot and played in 14 games as a rookie, primarily on special teams. - Ann Arbor News

Michigan tight end Nick Eubanks confirmed the expected - he's heading to the NFL Draft. Eubanks made the announcement Wednesday on Instagram a day after running back Chris Evans made it official that he's also leaving for the NFL. Eubanks was a co-captai n last season. The 6-foot-5, 256-pound Eubanks played in five games this season, making 10 catches for 117 yards and a touchdown. He has 45 catches for 578 yards (12.8 yards) and six touchdowns in his career with the Wolverines. - Detroit News

They had started fall camp, preparing to kick off a just-announced 10-game season, when suddenly, the upperclassmen on the Michigan football team had to rethink their next steps. Less than a week after Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren released the sched ule, the football season was canceled amid lingering concerns about the health and safety of the players because of COVID-19. "It was a real dark day in terms of everybody finding out that there wasn't going to be a season, because we had high hopes," Mi chigan tight end Nick Eubanks told reporters Wednesday during a video conference.Now, players like Eubanks, defensive tackle Carlo Kemp, defensive end Kwity Paye and receiver Nico Collins, among others, must weigh their options. Should they hang o n for a spring season that the Big Ten reportedly is planning? Should they leave now and begin training for the NFL Draft? They've already seen one teammate, right tackle Jalen Mayfield, declare this week for the draft. "I think about that a lot, especia lly now because of the season being postponed," Eubanks said. "But right now I'm just going to just stick around for a couple of months and then see where it goes from there in terms of me making the decision. While Jalen Mayfield made the call Tuesday to jump into the NFL draft pool for 2021, some of his Michigan teammates are going to wait. Tight end Nick Eubanks and defensive lineman Carlo Kemp, both fifth-year seniors with one year of eligibility remaining and no fall season to prepare for, told reporters Wednesday that they are keeping their eye to the spring. Last week, the Big Ten Conference postponed all sports this fall, including football, citing health and safety concerns pertaining to the COVID-19 pandemic. The league hopes to resume play in the spring, but whether that happens and what it could look like remain unclear. "I think about that a lot, especially (now) with the season postponed," Eubanks said over video conference call. "Right now, I' m going to stick around and train for a couple of months and see where it goes from here." For now, Michigan's football team continues to operate under NCAA guidelines permitting 20 hours per week of strength training and conditioning, meetings and on-fi eld walkthroughs. - Ann Arbor News

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer doubled down Friday on her stance on fans attending sporting events this fall: No full stadiums until a vaccine is available. "We're going to be in a new normal for quite a while," Whitmer said during her weekly news confer ence, "and it doesn't mean that sports is over. Sports is not over." "We need a vaccine, and we need mass quantities available to be able to test and acknowledge we have some immunity built up. We're not there yet. Until that happens, I think all the org anizers of these leagues understand how important it is that we act responsibly here."Whitmer's response echoed her comments from a radio interview Tuesday, in which she stated she doesn't think capacity crowds at events will be allowed this fall. There are more than 50,000 cases of COVID-19 in Michigan and more than 5,000 people have died. Of those deaths, more than 2,000 come from Wayne County, where Detroit's major professional teams play. It's been nearly three months since Jim Harbaugh spoke to reporters, but he broke his silence amid the COVID-19 pandemic on Friday. Appearing on a podcast with Jay Nordlinger, childhood friend and senior editor of the conservative National Review magazin e, the Michigan football coach said he's hopeful a college football season can be played this fall. "Hope and going to prepare," Harbaugh said. "I'm not going to give it one thought that it's not going to happen, because it's like being a quarterback. I learned that it's better to be prepared and not have the opportunity, than to not prepare and your chance comes and your opportunity comes and you're not prepared to do it. "You got to not have one thought that it won't happen."But the novel coron avirus continues to wreak havoc in the United States, infecting more than 459,000 people, killing more than 16,500, as of Thursday afternoon, according to updated numbers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In mid-March, the Big Ten anno unced the suspension of all organized team activities, and since extended the suspension to May 4, wiping out the Wolverines' spring practice schedule. Michigan's coaches have been working from home ever since, talking over the phone and electronically, while doing their best to recruit. "Doing the virtual (thing)," Harbaugh said. "God has stopped the world from spinning, but doing things from home. Calls - like I see a lot of people doing - and also, just things with my kids. With coaching, there's so many hours a day that you work - and it's pretty much 365 days a year. So, I'm trying to make memories with my kids." - Ann Arbor News

2019 ALL-BIG TEN HONORABLE MENTION (COACHES): Nick Eubanks,...Eubanks was U-M's fifth-leading receiver with a career-best 23 receptions for 229 yards. He also scored three of his four career touchdowns during the 2019 campaign. McKeon missed several game s due to injury but managed two touchdowns and 235 yards on 13 receptions, including a career-long 41-yard catch-and-run against Ohio State. His 18.1 yards per catch are second best on the Michigan roster. Both tight ends also were important pieces of Mi chigan's run game which produced three backs with a rate of 4.7 yards per carry or better, including two over 5.0 yards per carry. - Michigan Football
