Donavaughn Campbell, Louisiana Tech, Player News
|
Three Louisiana Tech senior football players decided last week forego the remainder of their careers in Ruston and enter their names in the 2021 NFL Draft. During his Zoom teleconference Tuesday, Tech head football coach Skip Holtz said while starting le ft tackle Donavaughn Campbell, wide receiver Adrian Hardy and running back Justin Henderson told him of their intentions prior to them announcing their departure from the program, he said he didn't agree with all three leaving before the 2020 season wrap s up."They all three informed me of their decision. They came to me and told me this is where they are," Holtz said. "They're all seniors. They're all big boys and they need to make their own decision. I told them I didn't necessarily agree with i t, but I wasn't there to argue with them. If they felt like that was in their best interest, then I would respect it. I would support it. "I asked them to explain to me why. I understand why they made their decision. I don't agree with all of them, but i t's not my decision. It's their decision and we're going to react and respond to them with the players that are on this roster that want to play and represent Louisiana Tech." - Monroe News Star

For the second time this season, Louisiana Tech has lost its starting left tackle. Donavaughn Campbell announced Monday afternoon his intention to forego the remainder of his senior season and enter his name in the 2021 NFL Draft. Tech has three schedule d games left on its 2020 season, including the cancellation of its game against Louisiana-Monroe in Shreveport that was supposed to happen this weekend. Campbell, who was set to be the starting right guard for the Bulldogs after transferring from LSU as a graduate transfer last offseason, took over the left tackle position at the beginning on this year after former starter Willie Allen missed the first few games before opting out and transferring to Michigan in October. Skip Holtz has called Campbell "a special talent" and the 6-5, 353-pound lineman started six games at left tackle this season, the one game he missed he was out due to COVID-19 related issues. While he's played at tackle this season, the senior projects to play at guard in the NFL. - Mo nroe News Star

Holtz had one word when asked to describe Donavaughn Campbell: "Talent." Starting tailback Justin Henderson has said that big guy was "going to be something to reckon with." After spending four years in a backup role at LSU appearing in 15 games, the 6-6 , 353-pound behemoth made an immediate impact for the Bulldogs up front. During fall camp, he's taken reps at three different spots along the offensive line, but right guard looks to be the position he'll play. Holtz has raved about Campbell's athleticis m and how quickly he's picked up on Louisiana Tech's playbook. - Monroe News Star
