Jalen Camp, Georgia Tech, Player News

  12/18/20 - WR Jalen CamprSr/2021, Georgia Tech, 6-2, 226 (DS#62 WR) + More +

Georgia Tech wide receiver Jalen Camp will forego his extra year of eligibility and seek a career in the NFL. Camp, who played his senior season this year but had an option to return as the NCAA has granted all fall-sports athletes with an additional year of eligibility, made the announcement Thursday on his Twitter account. After an injury and surgery shortened his 2019 season to four games, Camp came back and completed the best season of his career, with 29 catches for 439 yards and four touchdowns, all team highs. He showed strong hands and the ability to use his size (6-foot-2, 220 pounds) effectively to be a target for quarterback Jeff Sims. - Atlanta Journal Constitution

When the season ends, Camp will have a decision about a potential third senior season, as the NCAA has granted all fall-sports athletes an extra season of eligibility. Camp's father said the family hasn't made a decision on whether to take it. Richard Camp believes his son can play in the NFL - he has the benefit of having trained a number of NFL players - but realizes that his numbers won't stick out. That said, wide receivers with as few as 25 catches in the 2019 season were taken in the draft. And Camp certainly would catch notice at Tech's Pro Day. Richard Camp said that his son has a 40.5-inch vertical, can run the 40-yard dash under 4.5 seconds, can bench press more than 400 pounds and squat more than 550. Richard Camp said he'll put his trust in the guidance of Collins and Dixon. Before then, Tech and Camp will see if they can build on the form they showed against Duke. "I just feel like Jalen individually and also the team itself, it's just really gratifying to see the lights of success that we've had because we've been waiting for it for awhile," Richard Camp said. - Atlanta Journal Constitution

  10/01/19 - WR Jalen CamprSr/2021, Georgia Tech, 6-2, 226 (DS#62 WR) + More +

Georgia Tech has lost leading receiver Jalen Camp and starting center Kenny Cooper to season-ending surgeries. Coach Geoff Collins said Tuesday that Camp, Cooper and offensive tackle Jahaziel Lee, whose season ended with an injury in mid-September, are eligible for redshirts and could return next year as fifth-year seniors. Camp led the Yellow Jackets (1-3) with 134 yards receiving on seven catches. Collins would not disclose Camp's injury. Cooper, a starter the last three years, left the 24-2 loss at Temple with an apparent hip injury. - AP College Football

  07/11/19 - WR Jalen CamprSr/2021, Georgia Tech, 6-2, 226 (DS#62 WR) + More +

Seniors Jalen Camp and David Curry will join first-year coach Geoff Collins as representatives of the Georgia Tech football program at the ACC Football Kickoff July 18 in Charlotte. Tech and the six other Coastal Division teams will meet the press on the final day of the two-day event. The seven Atlantic Division teams will open the event July 17. Camp started last season at wide receiver and had 11 catches for 186 yards.

Curry started at linebacker in 2018 and finished sixth in tackles and also returned a fumble for a touchdown.Collins, hired in December as the successor to Paul Johnson, is a metro Atlanta native who worked twice previously at Tech and led Temple to bowl games in each of his two seasons in Philadelphia. - Atlanta Journal Constitution
