Saying his time at Nebraska has been nothing short of amazing, Husker senior cornerback Dicaprio Bootle has decided to enter the NFL Draft. He made the announcement Tuesday night via Twitter. He totaled 26 pass breakups in his Nebraska career, which ranks ninth in program history. Although he had only one interception, he was a model of consistency and respected enough by his teammates to be named one of five team captains in 2020. - Lincoln Journal Star

Dicaprio Bootle didn't know why he was a "nobody." Maybe it was his height. Maybe it was his weight. But he wasn't getting the big-time scholarship offers he wanted as a high schooler growing up in Miami. "I don't really know why that was," the Nebraska cornerback said Monday. "I just knew that I was gonna keep working and let it happen, put it all in God's hands and let it work for me." Bootle was discovered at a satellite camp in Miami. He went because Rutgers coaches were attending it, and they had expressed interest in him. Bootle clocked a 4.3-second 40-yard dash, which turned the heads of more than just Rutgers' coaches. A flurry of offers came in for Bootle, but one rose to the top. Nebraska. "I was nobody," he said. "I mean, I came in 2016, nobody really gave me a chance... I had to wait my turn, I had to sit down and understand that there were guys that were here before me. There are guys that were a little more seasoned before me." - Omaha World Herald

A few months ago, Kade Warner was a walk-on wide receiver. Now he's a scholarship player and a Nebraska team captain. The junior, who has assumed a leadership role in the wide receivers room and has been talked about consistently in positive terms since the Huskers began camp several weeks ago, is one of five players named a captain by Nebraska on Saturday. Senior inside linebacker Collin Miller and senior defensive back Dicaprio Bootle are also first-time captains, while junior quarterback Adrian Martinez and senior right guard Matt Farniok were chosen for the second straight year. Bootle, Farniok and Martinez are all multiyear mainstays on the field, while Miller ascended to a starting role in 2019 and projects as a starter and a regular at inside linebacker again this fall. Bootle has played in 36 career games and has been a regular in the lineup since 2017, while Farniok is not far behind at 31 career appearances. Martinez, of course, has spent his first two seasons at Nebraska as the team's top quarterback, starting 21 games and missing three due to injury. - Lincoln Journal Star

2021 SENIOR BOWL WATCH LIST: Dicaprio Bootle, Nebraska,...Bootle started every game as a junior in 2019, starting the first eight games at cornerback and the final four contests at safety. He finished the year with 31 tackles, six pass breakups and one forced fumble. Bootle was a key member of a Husker secondary that held six opponents to fewer than 170 passing yards, including three under 100 yards. - Nebraska Football

As Travis Fisher gave a quick breakdown of the top of his room, a trio of seniors and a junior in the Nebraska secondary, a similar theme quickly emerged. Simply put, the Huskers are primed to have a versatile, veteran secondary in 2020 and a group that Fisher has a deep trust in. Senior Dicaprio Bootle? "At this point, Dicaprio is a grown man," Fisher told the "Husker Sports Nightly" radio program Thursday evening. "Everything he does, he handles it like a grown man." That, according to Fisher, includes leading the position group and working out sometimes three or four times per day. Not only that, but Fisher says he can play Bootle at any position in the secondary, something evidenced by the fact that he moved from corner to safety down the stretch in 2019. - Lincoln Journal Star

Nebraska head coach Scott Frost recently added a pair of defensive analysts to his football staff. The Huskers have added former NFL assistant Bill McGovern and college assistant Bobby Maffei as analysts. Both are listed on the school website's staff directory, though it was not immediately clear how long either has been on staff. McGovern spent 2016-19 with the New York Giants, working last year alongside NU outside linebackers coach Mike Dawson. Before that, Dawson and McGovern also spent three seasons together on the Philadelphia Eagles staff, and coached together at Boston College.

Overall, McGovern has spent the past seven seasons as a full-time position coach in the NFL between New York and Philadelphia, but was not retained when the Giants fired Pat Shurmur and hired Joe Judge. Clearly, though, he and Dawson have several years of history together. Maffei spent the 2019 season at Richmond, where he was the Spiders' special teams coordinator and a defensive assistant coach. - Lincoln Journal Star
