Kansas State football's summer workouts are on pause. In a release from the athletics department Saturday, K-State announced it has suspended the football program's voluntary workouts for the next 14 days as a result of this week's positive coronavirus results. As of Friday, K-State has confirmed 14 student-athletes have tested positive for COVID-19 since returning to campus this summer. K-State's football program started voluntary summer workouts Monday, the first day Big 12 teams were permitted to do so.

K-State is the second school to suspend summer workouts, following Houston, which did so June 12 after six symptomatic student-athletes, spread across various sports, tested positive. The updated total for K-State is an increase of six known positives; the athletics department announced Thursday eight student-athletes had tested positive. It also represents an increase in Riley County on the whole: The county now has has 103 positives, with 12 new since Wednesday. Of those, six of the new cases are the K-State student-athletes announced Saturday, a Manhattan city health official confirmed. - Manhattan Mercury

Kansas State officially hired Steve Stanard as its new linebackers coach Monday. He replaces Scottie Hazelton, who coached K-State's linebackers in addition to his duties as defensive coordinator last season. After being down one coach following the departure of defensive coordinator Scottie Hazelton for the same position at Michigan State, Klieman officially filled the final vacancy on his staff Monday, hiring Steve Stanard as the team's new linebackers coach. Stanard spent the last three seasons as Syracuse's defensive ends coach. He coached alongside Klieman at North Dakota State in 2012 and 2013, when Klieman was the Bison's defensive coordinator and Stanard guided the team's linebackers.

Stanard helped Syracuse force 56 turnovers (2.2 per game) in the past two seasons, with the Orange boasting a plus-22 turnover margin during that span. Stanard tutored Alton Robinson and Kendall Coleman, a pair that became one of the ACC's most productive tandems during that time. Robinson collected 32.5 career tackles for loss and finished his career seventh in school history with 17.5 sacks, while Coleman recorded 26.5 tackles for loss and 15.5 sacks. - Manhattan Mercury
