2019 ALL-SOUTH ATLANTIC CONFERENCE FOOTBALL FIRST TEAM: DB Dee Alford, Tusculum,...Alford, a 6-0, 170-pound senior cornerback from Griffin, Georgia earns All-SAC recognition for a third time, becoming the second TU defensive back to achieve this feat. Fo rmer TU great DJ Starling earned All-SAC honors in 2000, 2001 and 2003. Alford earns first team honors after being named to the All-SAC second team in 2017 and 2018. This season, Alford led the SAC with 20 passes defended (5th in NCAA II) including his t eam-best five interceptions (3rd SAC/25th in NCAA II) and his 15 pass break-ups. His passes defended tally is the second most in a TU single-season, while his five interceptions are tied for second as well. He returned those five picks for 122 yards whic h are second in school history.In his home finale against Mars Hill, Alford established a new single-game record with his seven passes defended including two interceptions, which are tied for a TU record and becomes the 24th Pioneer to achieve the feat. For his efforts, he was named the SAC Defensive Player of the Week for a second time this season and was also tabbed the College Defensive Player of the Week by the Tennessee Sportswriters Association. Alford finished fourth on the team with his 4 5 tackles, including three for loss and forced a fumble. He was also Tusculum's punt returner and averaged 14.22 yards per return, which is second in the conference and 11th in the country. His 40 career passes defended are a new Tusculum record, while h is 195 career interception return yards also a new TU-best. - Tusculum Football

NOV 11 SOUTH ATLANTIC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Tusculum defensive back Dee Alford, a senior from Griffin, Ga., had a record setting day for the Pioneers in their 24-7 win over Mars Hill. He posted a single-game Tusculum record of seven passes defend ed including two interceptions, while breaking up five passes. He limited the top receiver in the SAC, Craig Rucker, to just four receptions and 59 total yards on the day. Alford added four tackles to the day, including three solo tackles and 55-yard int erception return, giving him 195 career interception return yards, a Pioneer football record. This is Alford's second defensive player of the week award of the season. - South Atlantic Conference Football

OCT 21 SOUTH ATLANTIC CONFERENCE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Dee Alford, Tusculum,...Alford, a senior from Griffin, Ga., was instrumental in helping the Pioneers to a 21-19 win over UVa-Wise last week. He recorded six tackles, including four solo tackl es, along with a tackle for loss; four pass breakups and an interception. His interception was returned for 32 yards and setup Tusculum's first touchdown of the day. He also had six punt returns for 92 yards, including a career-best 52-yard return. 2019 PRESEASON ALL-SAC FOOTBALL SECOND TEAM: DB Dee Alford, Tusculum,...Alford is a two-time All-SAC selection earning league second team accolades in 2017 and 2018. Last year, the 6-0, 170-pound senior from Griffin, Georgia led TU with 13 passes defende d (43rd in NCAA II) including 11 pass break-ups (4th in SAC) and two interceptions (T14th in SAC). His 49 total tackles were fourth on the team including 31 solo stops.In 2018, Alford also served as the team's punt returner, where he averaged 7.4 yards on his 22 punt return attempts. His 20 career passes defended are ninth in school history while his three career fumble recoveries are tied for eighth-most in the TU record book. - Tusculum Football
