2019 AFCA DIVISION II COACHES' FIRST TEAM ALL-AMERICAN: DL Austin Edwards, Sr., Ferris St. (Mich.),...The GLIAC Player of the Year, Edwards led the Bulldogs to a second consecutive GLIAC Championsip and an unbeaten regular-season. As the leader of one of the nation's top defensive units, Edwards compiled 17.5 tackles for loss (-106 yards) along with 10.5 sacks (-87 yards) and 64 total stops this campaign with both a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. The three-year starter was a three-time All-GLIAC h onoree and three-time All-American who helped FSU to its sixth consecutive NCAA Division II Playoff appearance this year and the region's top seed along with a fourth-straight trip to the national quarterfinals or beyond.The two-time All-GLIAC Fir st Team pick was a finalist a year ago for the 2018 Cliff Harris Award as one of the nation's top small college performers and is a highly-regarded NFL prospect. The Ferris State Bulldogs will open the 2019 campaign with high expectations after a historic season last fall that saw FSU reach the NCAA Division II National Championship game for the first time in school history. The Bulldogs are presently listed firs t in the country entering the year by both the Massey Ratings and the CompughterRatings.com polls. FSU was also tabbed second behind defending national champion Valdosta State by three other sources, including Lindy's Sports, Street & Smith's and College Football America.This year marks the fourth time in the past five years the Bulldogs have been tabbed as one of the country's top three teams in at least one preseason national ranking. The Bulldogs will begin their 111th season of varsity compet ition this coming fall with their sights set on making a sixth consecutive trip to the NCAA Division II Playoffs. FSU returns 18 starters from last fall's historic campaign. Along with reaching the national title game, the Bulldogs captured the GLIAC Cha mpionship in 2018 and won the Super Region Three title by winning their first four NCAA Playoff games en route to a historic run. The four playoff wins included FSU's first-ever National Semifinal victory at Minnesota State.
