A big game turned into a big win for the Montana Grizzlies, who rode three touchdown passes from Dalton Sneed to a 35-16 win over Weber State on Saturday. Sneed, a senior quarterback, hooked up with junior receiver Samori Toure for all three touchdowns a s the Grizzlies (9-2, 6-1 in the Big Sky Conference) handled the showdown between two top teams in the Football Championship Subdivision. Toure had eight catches for a career-high 193 yards. His first touchdown, covering 10 yards, gave Montana the lead f or good at 7-0 at 11:24 of the first quarter. The Grizzlies, ranked No. 5 in the STATS/FCS poll, scored four plays after partially blocking a punt. Before the quarter ended Toure took a short slant pass 79 yards for a touchdown and a 14-3 lead. "I thought the entire team took to heart that we had a big game this weekend," Montana coach Bobby Hauck said. "And I thought the preparation was such that we were going to be tough to beat. Then we came out and played well and took care of business in a bi g, big way." On the Grizzlies' opening possession of the second half Toure scored on a 59-yard slant pass to make it 28-3. "It was just really a lot of film study, to be honest," said Toure, who has seen more passes while teammate Sammy Akem has been sid elined. "We noticed in previous games that's where they were kind of susceptible, and we just took advantage of it." Weber State (8-3, 6-1) ruled time of possession in the first half and intercepted Sneed twice in the second. Yet the Wildcats managed onl y a 32-yard Trey Tuttle field goal until backup Kaden Jenks threw two fourth-quarter TD passes. - AP College Football

After three first-quarter turnovers the Montana Grizzlies felt the need for Sneed. Senior quarterback Dalton Sneed came off the bench and threw for 241 yards and a touchdown to push the Montana Grizzlies past the Idaho Vandals 42-17 Saturday. Sophomore M arcus Knight added three short touchdown runs as Montana once again rallied and improved to 8-2 overall, 5-1 in the Big Sky Conference. Sneed, out since an ankle injury suffered at Sacramento State on Oct. 19, relieved starter Cam Humphrey in the second quarter with Idaho ahead 10-0. He led two touchdown drives in both the second and third quarters as the Grizzlies took command. His 16-yard pass to running back Nick Ostmo on a third-and-7 signaled a momentum switch after Idaho had driven 97 yards for its first touchdown. Ostmo, a freshman, ran 7 yards for his first collegiate touchdown to cut the gap to 10-7. Sneed's 44-yard strike to Samori Toure put Montana, ranked No. 6 in the STATS FCS poll, up 14-10 with 1:20 left in the first half. Toure ha d nine catches for 129 yards. "Dalton wanted to play a week ago and we didn't feel he was ready," Montana coach Bobby Hauck said. "He didn't practice on Tuesday, so I felt it was Cam's game to start. Cam had played well and we were very confident in him. But we did have a plan to play Dalton today." Sneed came in after Humphrey sandwiched two interceptions around a fumble by Knight -- all in the first quarter. - AP College Football

Coming off a loss in which they lost their standout quarterback, the Montana Grizzlies turned to sophomore running back Marcus Knight Saturday and he delivered. Knight ran for 131 yards and three touchdowns to help Montana rally past Eastern Washington 3 4-17 Saturday. Knight's touchdown runs of 4, 45 and 9 yards backed junior Cam Humphrey, who was making his first start at quarterback for injured senior Dalton Sneed. Sneed came out of a 49-22 loss at Sacramento State with an injured ankle.Humphre y threw for a touchdown as the Grizzlies, ranked 10th in the STATS FCS Top 25, improved to 6-2, 3-1 in the Big Sky Conference. Eastern Washington (3-5, 2-2) started fast and led 14-3 midway through the second quarter after Andrew Boston's 30-yard touchdo wn reception and a 5-yard scoring run by Tamarick Pierce. Montana seized some momentum by driving 65 yards to Knight's first touchdown, cutting the gap to 14-10 as snow began to fly late in the first half. The Grizzlies built on that after halftime and f inished with 255 rushing yards, claiming just their second win over Eastern in their last eight meetings. "Certainly, to beat a team that played in the (FCS) national championship game last year is big for us," Montana coach Bobby Hauck said. "Our backs were running hard. Nick (Ostmo, who had 79 yards) ran hard, (Marcus) ran hard. We had a lot of yards after contact. We were breaking tackles. With the young guys we have going right now, I think the future is bright." - AP College Football
