Tom Flacco of Towson threw for 173 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another score to help the National team beat the American 35-7 in the Tropical Bowl on Sunday at Spec Martin Stadium. Flacco is the brother of Denver Broncos quarterback Joe Flacco. Dan Chisena of Penn State caught a 69-yarder from Flacco in the fourth quarter and a 55-yarder from Tulane's Justin McMillan (7 of 10 for 93 yards) in the second. The National team took a 21-0 lead on Flacco's 8-yard run with 1:04 remaining in the first half. Chisena had five catches for 155 yards.Flacco's first touchdown pass went to another Baltimore-based player - Manasseh Bailey of Morgan State for 21 yards to cap off the National team's opening drive. Saif Kahn of Clarion scored the National team's other touchdown on a 10-yard fumble return in the third quarter. Jaylon Henderson of Boise State had the American team's only touchdown on a 12-yard quarterback keeper after leading a 16-play, 75-yard drive. He finished 10 of 17 for 87 yards. Dre Brown of Illinois led the National team with 31 yards on seven carries while Walter Fletcher of Ball State gained a team-high 37 yards on nine carries for the American team. Yeedee Thaenrat rushed for a career-high 158 yards, Tom Flacco threw two touchdown passes and Towson defeated William & Mary 31-10 on Saturday. Thaenrat's touchdown, a 3-yard run, capped a 7-play, 85-yard opening drive for the Tigers (7-4, 4-3 Colonial). William & Mary (4-7, 2-5) answered with a field goal before Towson scored the next 24 points, including TD passes of 6 and 9 yards from Flacco to Shane Leatherbury. William & Mary's touchdown came on a 15-yard fumble return by Tyler Crist and the Tribe were held to 276 yards of offense. Kane Everson caught six passes for 109 yards. Tom Flacco passed for two touchdowns and Towson used a run of unanswered points to defeat Stony Brook 31-14 Saturday. The Tigers (6-4, 3-3 Colonial Athletic Association) trailed Stony Brook 7-3 in the second quarter before scoring 14 points to close out the first half and seven more to open the second half. The 21-0 run put the game away. Shane Leatherbury scored on a 12-yard run with 4:43 left in the second quarter and, after a Stony Brook three-and-out, Yeedee Thaenrat scored from the 1 as the Tigers ended the half with a 17-7 lead. Towson, ranked No. 21 in the FCS coaches' poll, opened the second half with a 69-yard drive capped by a 12-yard pass from Flacco to Leatherbury, who had beat his man to the back of the end zone. Tyquell Fields passed for 241 yards with a pair of touchdowns for the Seawolves (5-5, 2-4) but was intercepted three times. He also rushed for 77 yards. OCT 21 CAA FOOTBALL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Tom Flacco, Sr., QB, Towson (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern),...In just one half of action, Flacco completed 16-of-22 passes for 203 yards and a school-record six touchdowns as Towson rolled over Bucknell, 56-7. The senior quarterback threw three TD passes in each of the first two quarters as the Tigers found the end zone on six of their first seven possessions. Tom Flacco threw a school-record six touchdown passes in the first half, five to Shane Leatherbury, as Towson steamrolled Bucknell, 56-7 in a nonconference game on Saturday. The brother of Denver Broncos quarterback Joe, Flacco hit Chris Clark with a 12- yard scoring pass four minutes into the game, then hit Leatherbury with two scoring passes less than a minute apart as the Tigers staked a 21-0 lead after one quarter.After Jared Cooper scored from 3-yards out for Bucknell's only points, Leatherbu ry pulled in passes from 2- and 45-yards out to make it 42-7 at the break. D'Ago Hunter took the opening kick of the second half and returned it 92 yards for a touchdown and Aaron Speight scored from a yard out to complete the scoring. Towson checked Buc knell on 18 yards of offense in the first quarter and the Bison trailed 28-0 before their offense ventured past midfield. Flacco was 16 of 22 for 203 yards. The first top 10 matchup of the 2019 season did not disappoint. After going into the half with a mere 3-point lead against then-No. 9 Maine, Towson outscored the Black Bears 28-10 in the second half to bring home a commanding 45-23 Colonial Athletic Asso ciation win. The Tigers' win propelled them into the top 5 for the first time this season checking in at No. 5 in this week's AFCA FCS Coaches' Top 25 Poll. North Dakota State received all 26 first place votes and remained the No. 1 team in the nation fo llowing their win over then-No. 18t Delaware. James Madison, South Dakota State and UC Davis remained unchanged, coming in at No. 2 through 4 spots.Youngstown State checks in the Top 25 for the first time in 2019 following their 34-14 victory over Duquesne, while Elon jumps back into the poll at No. 22. Villanova makes this week's biggest jump, going up five spots to No. 18 following a dominating 35-10 win over Bucknell.
