  2019 AFCA FCS COACHES' SECOND TEAM ALL-AMERICAN: LB Zach Hall, Sr., Southeast Missouri St.,...A three-year starting inside linebacker, Hall garnered First-Team All-Ohio Valley Conference accolades. He finished fourth in the overall voting for the Buck Buchanan Award after winning the National Defensive Player of the Year honor in 2018. Hall ranked 24th in the FCS with 123 tackles, going over 100 for the second year in a row. He added 57 solo stops, 9.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, two interceptions and three forced fumbles. Hall returned one of his interceptions 61 yards for a touchdown. He notched double-digit tackles in seven of his 13 starts and ranked second in the OVC in total tackles, third in tackles per game (8.4), 16th in sacks and 12th in tackles for loss. - Southeast Missouri State Football

  2019 ALL-OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE FIRST TEAM (COACHES): LB - Zach Hall, Southeast Missouri,...The reigning Buck Buchanan Award winner, Hall is from Louisville, Kentucky. Hall went over 100 tackles (113) for the second year in a row. A three-year starting inside linebacker, Hall also tallied nine tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, two interceptions, two pass breakups, three forced fumbles and eight quarterback hurries in 12 starts this year. He was named OVC Defensive Player of the Week two-straight weeks and posted double-digit tackles a total of six times in 2019.   NOV 25 OHIO VALLEY DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Zach Hall, LB, 6-0, 238, Sr., Louisville, Ky., Southeast Missouri,...For the second-straight week Hall was named OVC Defensive Player of the Week after leading Southeast Missouri to a 31-24 win over Murray State which helped the Redhawks earn a share of the OVC Championship and earn an at-large playoff berth. The reigning National Defensive Player of the Year had 10 tackles, a quarterback hurry, a pass breakup and returned an interception 61 yards for a touchdown.

The pick-six came midway through the second quarter with the game tied at 10 and helped turned the momentum for Southeast Missouri. He keyed a defense that shutout MSU in allowed just 114 yards of total offense in the second half. It marked the fourth time in five games Hall had double-digit tackles. Hall ranks 26th nationally in tackles/game (9.3).   #12 Southeast Missouri (9-3) will host Missouri Valley Football Conference member #13 Illinois State (8-4) in the first round of the 2019 NCAA Division I Football Championship on Saturday, Nov. 30. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m., CT, at Houck Field. The game will air live on ESPN3. The winner of the SEMO and ISU matchup will advance to play Central Arkansas, which secured the #8 national seed. The Redhawks entered this year's 24-team bracket as an at-large selection joining automatic qualifier Austin Peay out of the Ohio Valley Conference. APSU also plays a first round game against Furman Saturday.

SEMO makes its third playoff appearance all-time and advances to the postseason for a program-first second straight season. The Redhawks earned a share of the 2019 Ohio Valley Conference title with Austin Peay after beating Murray State, 31-24, Nov. 23. This year marks the seventh of an expanded 24-team playoff field. In 2010 the FCS Playoffs expanded from 16 teams to 20 teams, the first expansion since the field grew from 12 to 16 teams in 1997. The OVC has placed multiple teams in the playoffs (which began in 1978) in 22 of the 41 years; the OVC has now had multiple teams in the field in seven of the last 10 and nine of the last 14 years. - Southeast Missouri Football

  NOV 18 OVC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Zach Hall, LB, 6-0, 238, Sr., Louisville, Ky., Southeast Missouri,...Hall, the reigning Buck Buchanan Award Winner, had 12 tackles (including 1.5 for loss), a sack, an interception and pass breakup as No.15 Southeast Missouri won 26-12 at Eastern Illinois to remain tied for first place in the OVC standings. HIs sack came on the opening possession of the third quarter, went for -10 yards and forced a punt which teammate Shabari Davis returned 46 yards for a touchdown to put the Redhawks on top for good. Hall's interception came in the fourth quarter and helped Southeast end the game. Hall went over 100 tackles for the second-straight season, the first SEMO player to achieve that since 2011-12. Hall ranks 24th nationally in tackles (9.3/game).   Zion Custis ran 12 yards for a touchdown with 37 seconds left and Southeast Missouri State turned back an upset bid by Eastern Kentucky 38-31 on Saturday. The Redhawks (7-3, 5-1 Ohio Valley Conference), ranked 18th in the FCS Coaches poll, trailed 31-14 with 10:11 remaining in the third quarter before scoring 24 unanswered points. The Colonels (5-5, 3-3) took a 7-0 lead on Daryl McCleskey Jr.'s 7-yard run, but Daniel Santacaterina connected with Kristian Wilkerson for a 68-yard scoring strike to pull SEMO even after one quarter. Samuel Hayworth's 27-yard field put EKU up 10-7, but Santacaterina and Wilkerson hooked up for a 45-yard score and a 14-10 lead for the Redhawks. The Colonels scored two TDs in the final 5:45 of the second quarter -- Parker McKinney's 6-yard run and Alonzo Booth's 12-yard run -- to grab a 24-14 halftime lead.

Eastern Kentucky stretched its lead to 17 when Aaron Patrick sacked Santacaterina, forcing a fumble that was recovered in the end zone by Tre Turner. From there it was all Redhawks. Santacaterina pulled SEMO within 10 points by the end of the third quarter with a 7-yard TD toss to Zack Smith. Custis pulled the Redhawks within 31-28 on a 4-yard TD run early in the fourth quarter. Kendrick Tiller's 40-yard field goal with 5:55 left to play knotted the score at 31 and set the stage for Custis' second TD run. Santacaterina completed 17 of 27 passes for 295 yards with three TDs and two interceptions. Wilkerson finished with a career-best 10 catches for 254 yards and two scores.   There's no doubt a special defensive player will emerge in a special year for the STATS FCS Buck Buchanan Award. A watch list of 25 nominees was announced Thursday for the silver anniversary season of the Buchanan, which honors the defensive player of the year in college football's Division I subdivision.

The list included at least one player from all 13 FCS conferences. First awarded in 1995, the Buchanan has sent past winners such as Dexter Coakley, Rashean Mathis, Jared Allen, Arthur Moats and Kyle Emanuel on to the NFL. Southeast Missouri linebacker Zach Hall returns to the list after winning the award as a junior last season. - STATS FCS/NCAA.com
