Former Missouri offensive lineman Yasir Durant returned to Columbia a few days ago thinking he was here to participate in the Tigers' pro day. His plans for Tuesday - like most people's - have since changed. The showcase event, set to take place on campu s with NFL scouts coming to town to get an up-close look at Durant, Albert Okwuegbunam, Kelly Bryant and other MU football alumni, was canceled late last week due to the novel coronavirus. Gone with it was another chance for Durant, a three-year starter with the Tigers, to raise his stock for the NFL Draft later this year. The 6-foot-6, 330-pound Durant said Monday afternoon he was scheduled to participate in position drills at the Missouri pro day along with testing his vertical jump and strength on th e bench press. One reason why the Missouri pro day was important to Durant was improving upon his combine statistics and showing growth to professional scouts. Durant wanted to finish 24 or 25 reps on the bench press to further prove he's ready to contribute at the next level. "Since they shut everything down, I haven't really been going anywhere to train," Durant said. "I've been doing stuff on my own, push-ups, abs and stuff that I can do at my house that can keep me still working. Not so much o f all the extra stuff, all the advanced stuff, because I haven't been able to go anywhere." Durant is looking for another gym to continue his pre-draft workouts while also studying online to finish his degree in sports management at Missouri. - Columbia Daily Tribune

2020 NFL COMBINE INVITE: Yasir Durant, OT, Missouri,...Durant was a three-year starter at left tackle for the Tigers, where he made 34 starts from 2017-19. Mizzou went a combined 20-14 in those starts, and the Tiger offensive line was among the nation's best in both 2017 and 2018, paving the way for record-setting offenses. Mizzou led the nation in 2017 in fewest tackles for loss allowed and ranked sixth nationally (first in the SEC) in the same category in 2018. As a junior in 2018, Durant was part of a line that helped the Tigers produce one of the most balanced offensive attacks in the nation. That season, Mizzou was one of only three Power 5 offenses to throw for at least 279 yards per game, while rushing for at least 200 yards per game. - Missouri Football

Missouri fired football coach Barry Odom on Saturday, ending the four-year stay of a respected former player who took over a program in disarray but could never get the Tigers over the hump in the brutal SEC. The Tigers finished 6-6 and 3-5 in the confer ence after beating Arkansas on Friday. That left Odom with a 25-25 record, a perfectly middling mark after Gary Pinkel's successful run. Athletic director Jim Sterk called the dismissal a "difficult" but "necessary" move. "He and his staff have worked di ligently during the past four years," Sterk said in a statement. "Coach Odom has represented our program with integrity and dedicated himself to developing our student-athletes on and off the football field for which we are grateful."Sterk was exp ected to speak later in the day at Mizzou Arena. The Tigers were projected to contend for the top of the SEC East this season with the return of several key players and the arrival of high-profile Clemson transfer Kelly Bryant at quarterback. But the sea son began with a bumbling loss to Wyoming and never really got on track, and the Tigers were forced to beat Arkansas just to become bowl-eligible. Not that winning six games mattered. This past week, the school lost its appeal of NCAA penalties stemming from an incident involving a rogue tutor. That decision left in place postseason bans, recruiting and scholarship restrictions levied against the football, baseball and softball programs. - AP College Football
