*Gabriel Davis, Central Florida, Player News

Former UCF receiver Gabriel Davis has spent the past three months in Southern California training for the upcoming NFL draft. Davis said being drafted would fulfill a lifelong dream. In the moments following UCF's blowout win over Marshall in the Gasparilla Bowl on Dec. 23, Gabriel Davis quietly slipped among the fans and well-wishers taking part in the postgame celebration on the field at Raymond James Stadium. As UCF players and coaches climbed aboard a makeshift stage to accept the game trophy, Davis watched from below. The junior receiver chose to skip playing in the game to begin preparation for the next chapter of his career: the NFL.

"It was weird," Davis said of watching his teammates celebrate the win. "The three years went by so fast that I've been playing with them on the field. So, watching them, all the guys that I've been playing with for years. It was a different experience." The Sanford native said the decision to skip the game wasn't a difficult one. "Everybody from the staff to the players, family, everybody supported my decision and I felt like it was the best decision to make," said Davis, who set the UCF single-season record with 1,241 yards in 2019. Hearing his name called would fulfill a lifelong dream for Davis. "It would mean the world. I work every day for this opportunity to show what I can do," he said. "I know there are a lot of guys that I'm competing against in this class, but I know whoever gets me is going to get a guy who is passionate, loves the game and competes every day. Just a guy that is going to work, who wants to be a Hall of Famer, a Super Bowl winner and one of the best. That's what they'll see every day out of me." - Orlando Sentinel

2019 ALL-AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE FIRST TEAM (COACHES): WR Gabriel Davis, UCF, Jr.,...Davis (Sanford, Fla.), who was a second-team selection last season, led the Knights with 72 receptions for 1,241 yards and 12 receiving touchdowns in 2019. His yardage set a new UCF single-season record, topping the previous best of 1,237 by Doug Gabriel back in 2002. With 12 touchdowns, Davis was two-shy of the program record of 14 receiving scores in a season. He had five games of 100 or more receiving yards on the season, four of which came in consecutive games, which is tied for the second longest streak by a UCF receiver. He ranks eighth in the nation in receiving touchdowns and fifth in receiving yards. - Central Florida Football

UCF junior receiver Gabe Davis has decided to leave school a year early to enter the NFL draft, a move that comes as no surprise to most anyone close to the Knights program. "I feel good, man. It's just kind of weird just to know that the years at UCF went by so fast and now I'm doing something that I never thought I'd be doing...leaving after three years of playing college football. It's crazy," Davis told the Orlando Sentinel. It was just a few years ago that Davis was the skinny kid at Sanford Seminole who was serving as back-up quarterback to his good friend Kaylan Wiggins, when Wiggins was injured and Davis was still just solidifying his role and position on the Sanford team. Wiggins is now a quarterback at FIU.

Davis, who has become one of the best receivers in college football in his three seasons as a starter at UCF, is having his best year as a Knight with 72 catches for 1,241 yards and 12 touchdowns. The Knights are 9-3 this season and still await their bowl invitation, which will be announced Sunday. Davis said, "as of right now," he plans to play in the bowl game. The 6-foot-3, 212-pound athlete hinted earlier this year this could be his final college season. He made the most of his opportunities. At UCF, Davis has been instrumental in the Knights' run to prominence, only losing four times in the 38 games he has played. During his UCF career, he has 152 catches, 2,447 yards and 23 touchdowns. - The Orlando Sentinel

Dillon Gabriel threw two touchdown passes and ran for another score as UCF beat East Carolina 41-28 on Saturday night. Gabriel had a career-high 365 yards passing for the Knights (5-2, 2-1 American Athletic Conference) who scored 35 points in the first half. Gabriel Davis caught two touchdown passes and had 164 yards receiving. Otis Anderson ran for 80 yards on 18 carries. The Knights scored three touchdowns in the first quarter beginning with Gabriel's keeper to cap a 92-yard drive.

Greg McCrae took it in from the 4 after that and Bentavious Thompson streaked 32 yards to close the quarter with a 21-0 lead. Backup QB Darriel Mack Jr. threw a 33-yard touchdown to Davis early in the second quarter and Gabriel returned on the next drive to hit Davis again from 16 yards for a 35-3 advantage with 1:09 left in the half. The Knights allowed 17-unanswered ECU points in the third quarter before Gabriel found Tre Nixon for a 53-yard score to lead 41-22. Holton Ahlers had 313 yards and a touchdown passing and ran for another score for the Pirates (3-4, 0-3). - Central Florida/AP College Football

Dillon spread the ball around against Stanford, with his four touchdowns going to four different players. Yet it's Davis that is quickly becoming UCF's best deep threat. He is averaging 22.9 yards per reception, a significant boost from 2018 when he averaged 15.9 yards and scored seven touchdowns. Davis has three scores already but will be tested against an aggressive Pitt secondary that might be among the best in the Atlantic Coast Conference. - AP College Football

2019 PRESEASON BILETNIKOFF AWARD WATCH LIST: Gabriel Davis, UCF,...Davis comes into 2019 as UCF’s top returning receiver after earning Second Team All-Conference honors as a sophomore last year. Davis hauled in 53 receptions for 815 yards and scored seven touchdowns ad the Knights went 12-1 in 2018. The award recipient is selected by the highly distinguished Biletnikoff Award National Selection Committee, a group of prominent college football journalists, commentators, announcers, Biletnikoff Award winners, and other former receivers. Foundation trustees do not vote and have never voted. Receivers are frequently added to the watch list as their season performances dictate. Actual, not potential, performance is the basis for inclusion on the Biletnikoff Award Watch List. - UCF Football
