You've got to give the Cowboys credit on this one. I'll be honest, I've never truly thought teams actually lived by their "Best Player Available" stance. We hear it all the time, but to me, it's never truly accurate. Yes, teams will stick to their board at times, especially later in the draft when you just want to stockpile good players. But in the first round, with the 17th pick, and knowing there are some major holes on defense, the Cowboys truly went with the best player on their board and snagged Ce eDee Lamb, a dynamic receiver out of Oklahoma. Were their better needs on the board? Yes. Were their better players? Nope. And that's why I give the Cowboys a lot of credit in taking Lamb, whom Jerry Jones said was the No. 6 overall player on their draft board heading into Thursday night. Lamb will fit into the Cowboys system as one of the top three receivers next to Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup. - DallasCowboys.com

This year's draft is full of strong receivers, including Alabama's Jerry Jeudy and Henry Ruggs, Clemson's Tee Higgins, LSU's Justin Jefferson and Colorado's Laviska Shenault Jr. Lamb has still found a way to stand out. "He has an elite feel for space, fo r setting people up, getting separation on routes and also kind of that same feel of when he gets the ball in his hands of setting people up," OU coach Lincoln Riley said after observing Lamb's workout with former Sooner quarterback Jalen Hurts. "Combine d with the body physically that he's been able to build here. He's really made himself really exceptional after the catch. I mean, he really has."Lamb found the face-to-face interview part of the draft process "different." But it hasn't kept him f rom staying loose throughout. Being back at OU was even more comforting. His former quarterback, Kyler Murray, watched from the sidelines. Murray has advocated for the Arizona Cardinals to select Lamb so the two can reunite. "That option's out there, but I can't pick," Lamb said. "If I get to play with him I'd definitely be happy for sure." - Norman Transcript

Jalen Hurts threw three touchdown passes to CeeDee Lamb, Oklahoma's defense sacked Sam Ehlinger nine times and the No. 6 Sooners never trailed in a 34-27 victory over 11th-ranked Texas on Saturday. A year after a 48-45 loss in the Red River rivalry that led to the firing of their defensive coordinator, the Sooners harassed Ehlinger into minus-9 yards rushing while holding the quarterback with the three highest total yardage outputs for Texas against Oklahoma almost 200 yards below that 387-yard average. The Sooners (6-0, 3-0 Big 12) stayed on track for a third straight trip to the College Football Playoff and avenged last year's loss in Cotton Bowl Stadium in the middle of the Texas state fair, a victory that came in a rematch of the Big 12 championshi p game. The Longhorns (4-2, 2-1) are likely relegated to a spoiler role if there's a second consecutive Big 12 title game between the rivals. Both teams played under the threat of an ejection for unsportsmanlike conduct after referee Mike Defee fla gged everyone 30 minutes before the game when clusters of players got too close at midfield while wrapping up warmups and started jawing at each other. The only ejection was Texas defensive lineman Malcolm Roach, and it wasn't for unsportsmanlike conduct . He was flagged for targeting while hitting Lamb helmet-first and late two plays before Lamb weaved through Texas defenders on a flea-flicker pass, going 51 yards for a touchdown. Lamb had 10 catches for 171 yards, tip-toeing on the sideline to stay inb ounds on the 27-yarder for his final TD. Hurts threw for 235 yards, and the nation's leading rusher among QBs had 131 more on the ground, including a punctuating 3-yard touchdown for a 34-20 lead late in the fourth quarter. - Oklahoma/AP College Football

It's CeeDee Lamb's turn to be Oklahoma's big-name receiver. The past two years, Marquise "Hollywood" Brown garnered much of the attention with his blazing speed and highlight-reel plays before leaving for the NFL. Now, Lamb is in position to garner the a ttention and accolades. The 6-foot-2 junior said he will not be complacent now that he is the main man. "I'm just trying to go out there and be great," he said. "Show everybody what I can do for the most part, that I've gotten better, that I've gotten bi gger, faster, stronger. I just want to do all I can on my part, on my end, to help the team win."Oklahoma has a history of players stepping up to become star receivers in recent years. In 2015, Dede Westbrook was the No. 2 option behind Sterling S hepard. The next year, he won the Biletnikoff Award winner for the nation's top receiver. In 2017, after Westbrook went to the NFL, Brown emerged. Last season, Brown was a first-team Associated Press All-American. Lamb has been a co-star at times. He has 111 catches for 1,965 yards and 18 touchdowns in his career, with yardage and touchdown totals that sit at 10th place in school history. Last season, he caught 65 passes for 1,158 yards and 11 touchdowns. He had 160 yards and two touchdowns against Kans as State, 167 yards and a score against Texas in the Big 12 Championship Game and 109 yards and a touchdown in the College Football Playoff loss to Alabama. "I've just got to keep it rolling, man," he said. "That's my motto going into this season, is kee p it rolling." - AP College Football

CeeDee Lamb looks a year older and a year thicker. Last summer, teammates and reporters marveled at the Oklahoma junior receiver's physical transformation following his freshman campaign. Those advances are similar this season - a little more weight, a l ittle less fat. But he still remembers running a much thinner body through his first fall camp in Norman. "I would do something good, but it wouldn't be fast enough," Lamb said at Big 12 football media days this week. "For receivers, we have releases to get off jams. For mine, it would be too slow, and the quarterback would be on the next receiver because I was too long on my release."Ever since, despite a reputation for highlight-reel catches and long touchdowns, Lamb says his quest has been abo ut little things. "Just adding more tools to my inventory," Lamb said. "My freshman year, the things I did in high school weren't going to work. I'm still adding more to my game." - Norman Transcript
