2019 ALL-SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE FIRST TEAM (COACHES): DL Sully Laiche, Nicholls, Sr., Gramercy, La.,...Laiche was a one-man wrecking crew on the defensive line with 10 sacks and 19.5 tackles for loss. Despite missing the first two games, Laiche's averages in the categories are among the best in the FCS ranking second in TFLs and ninth in sacks. He is also sixth in the FCS with three forced fumbles. On the season, Laiche racked up a total of 54 tackles to lead all defensive lineman in the conference. For h is career, Laiche is the active leader in the FCS with 35.5 sacks. The total ranks him fourth all-time in the Southland Conference and just 2.5 from tying the league's top mark. 2019 SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE YEAR (COACHES): Sully Laiche, Nicholls,...The first defensive player to earn the league's top annual honor since 2007 (Bryan Smith, McNeese), Laiche led all FCS players with 2.1 tackles for loss per game and ranked fifth nationally in sacks per game (1.1). He led the Southland with 9.0 sacks in conference play and recorded at least one TFL in each of his nine starts. Named a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award, given to the FCS' top defensive player, Laiche total ed 19.5 tackles for loss and 10 sacks in the regular season to bring his career totals to 59 TFL and 35.5 sacks. NOV 18 SOUTHLAND DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Sully Laiche, Nicholls, Sr., Defensive Lineman, Gramercy, La.,...Laiche made his presence known early, recording his first tackle for loss on McNeese's second play from scrimmage with a stop of running back Justin Pratt in the backfield. By halftime, he had tallied the first of two sacks and three tackles for loss. Laiche's second sack came on the Cowboys' final series of the game as his strip sack set up fourth-and-14. Over his last four games, Laiche has 29 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, seven sacks and a pair of forced fumbles.
