2019 ALL-MID-AMERICAN CONFERENCE FIRST TEAM (COACHES): Inside Linebacker - John Lako, Akron,...A walk-on turned scholarship player, Lako was the Zips' defensive leader for the second consecutive season. He finished 2019 with 138 tackles, including a tea m-best 60 solo stops, a team-best 9.5 TFL for a loss of 25 yards, two hurries, two break-ups, a fumble recovery, and an interception for a 64-yard touchdown return. He recorded double-digit tackles in nine games, including a season-high 15 stops at North ern Illinois. Lako completed his collegiate career with appearances in 50 games, which ranks second on Akron's all-time list.A three-time CoSIDA Academic All-America nominee, Lako earned NFF Scholar-Athlete honors on Oct. 15. A preseason first-te am All-MAC selection by Phil Steele and Athlon Sports, Lako was nominated for the 2019 Wuerffel Trophy, William V. Campbell Trophy, and Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. Lako earned third-team All-MAC honors last season. A 2019 graduate of Akron with a degr ee in human resources management, Lako is pursuing an M.B.A. in finance. - Akron Football
