2019 ALL-BIG SKY CONFERENCE FIRST TEAM (COACHES): DE Jonah Williams, Senior, Weber State,...Senior defensive end Jonah Williams was named the Co-Big Sky Defensive Player of the Year. He is just the fifth Wildcat in history to earn Defensive Player of the Year honors. Williams has started every game for the Wildcats at defensive end and is fifth in the Big Sky in sacks with 6.5. He is also second on the Wildcat team and 15th in the league in tackles for loss with nine. He shared this year's Defensive MVP honors with Montana's Dante Olson. - Weber State Football

2019 BIG SKY CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR (COACHES): Jonah Williams, DE, Weber State,...Sharing co-defensive honors is Wildcat defensive end, Jonah Williams. He helped lead Weber State to a share of its third straight league title and is a key member of a Wildcat team that ranks in the top 10 in the FCS in rush defense. He has 48 tackles on the season, including 9.0 tackles for a loss of 64 yards. A senior for Weber State, he's collected 6.5 sacks for a loss of 59 yards. The senior is the second Wild cat in three years to earn defensive MVP honors, as he's tallied five quarterback hurries and three pass breakups to go along with two fumble recoveries and a forced fumble this season. - Big Sky Football

After winning its third-straight Big Sky title, it's on to the NCAA FCS Playoffs for the Weber State football team. The Wildcats earned the No. 3 seed for the playoffs announced Sunday. Weber State earned a first round bye and will have a home game on Sa turday, Dec. 7, against the winner of Kennesaw State and Wofford. The game will kickoff at 1 p.m. at Stewart Stadium. The FCS Playoff field was announced Sunday and includes 24 teams. Defending national champion North Dakota State was given the number o ne seed. James Madison is the number two seed. Sacramento State earned the number four seed with Montana State fifth and Montana sixth.The winner of the Dec. 7 game in Ogden would game would be paired against the winner of Montana and Southeastern Louisiana and Villanova in the quarterfinals on Dec. 13 or 14. The Wildcats won the Big Sky Conference title for a school-record third-straight season. WSU finished the regular season 9-3 overall and 7-1 in conference play for the third-straight year. W SU defeated Idaho State 38-10 Saturday. This is the fourth-straight trip to the playoffs for Weber State and the eighth in school history. - Weber State Football

2019 BUCK BUCHANAN AWARD WATCHLIST ADDITION: DL Jonah Williams, Weber State,...Williams is one of 16 players from across the country added to the watch list on Thursday and joins 10 other players named to the initial watch list. The season Williams, a na tive of Meridian, Idaho, has helped lead the Wildcats to a No. 3 ranking int eh country and a 7-2 overall record and a 5-0 start to Big Sky Conference play. He has started every game for the Wildcats this season and currently ranks sixth in the Big Sky i n sacks with 5.5. He also leads Weber State and is 16th in the conference in tackles for loss with seven. He also has two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble this season, along with three pass breakups and 38 total tackles. Williams has helped anchor the Wildcat defense that leads the conference and ranks high in the nation in total defense and scoring defense. WSU is also second in the league in rushing defense and third in passing defense. Williams is also serving as one of Weber State's team capt ains this season. He is a two-time All-Big Sky performer, including first-team honors in 2018. A 20-point first quarter proved to be too much for Northern Iowa to overcome as Weber State came away with a 29-17 victory. The Wildcasts opened the game with 17 unanswered points and held on until the finish, moving up one spot to No. 5 in this week's A FCA FCS Coaches' Top 25 Poll. With the loss, Northern Iowa fell six spots to No. 13. North Dakota State still sits No. 1 following their bye week. James Madison defeated then-No. 24 Elon, 45-10, and remains at No. 2, followed by No. 3 South Dakota State and No. 4 Kennesaw State.Stony Brook has checked into the Top 25 for the first time in 2019 following their 31-27 victory over Rhode Island, and comes in at No. 24. The Seawolves are joined by fellow newcomers Houston Baptist and Southeast Missour i State, who are tied at the No. 25 spot. The biggest Top 25 matchup this coming weekend is a Missouri Valley Conference battle as No. 1 North Dakota State travels to No. 6 Illinois State.
