Rashard Lawrence knows a thing about big-time football in the state of Arizona, and he likes the food, too. Lawrence was picked at No. 131 overall by the Arizona Cardinals, and has the distinction of being the 12th former Tigers player selected to tie t he SEC record held by Alabama. After LSU's victory in the 2020 SEC Championship in Atlanta, Lawrence said his preference for the College Football Playoff semifinals wasn't an opponent, but a trip to the Fiesta Bowl in Phoenix -- because of the food. The defensive lineman got a taste of the food one year earlier during LSU's trip to the Fiesta Bowl in 2019, a 40-32 LSU victory. It fueled him well, as Lawrence dominated with two sacks and four tackles to be named defensive MVP. The 2020 Tigers ended up b eing slotted into the Peach Bowl back in Atlanta, where they dominated Oklahoma on their run to the title at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans. He'll become a teammate of Isaiah Simmons, a star Clemson linebacker Lawrence had a big hand in defea ting in the CFP title game. They'll play their home games in Glendale, just minutes outside of Phoenix. - Baton Rouge Advocate

LSU coach Ed Orgeron says pass-rushing linebacker Michael Divinity and defensive lineman Rashard Lawrence are expected to practice this week and "hopefully" will play Saturday night when the fifth-ranked Tigers host No. 7 Florida. Orgeron says starting l eft tackle Saahdiq Charles also is expected to return to the lineup after being held out last Saturday against Utah State because of what Orgeron called a "coach's decision." The coach says reserve offensive lineman Charles Turner also "should be ready" if needed.Less clear is whether defensive lineman Glenn Logan, who started the Tigers' first two games, will be ready to return this weekend. Logan has missed all of LSU's past three games with an apparent lower left leg injury and Orgeron says he 's expected to practice this week on a limited basis. LSU's coach also is ruling out reserve offensive tackle Badara Traore and says it looks doubtful that defensive back Cordale Flott will be able to play. They both have undisclosed injuries. - AP Colle ge Football

LSU coach Ed Orgeron hopes to see evidence this week that the fifth-ranked Tigers' defense is on the mend - both physically and figuratively. Having last weekend off provided extra time for rest and reexamination of everything that hasn't gone right on t hat side of the ball. Defensive end Rashard Lawrence and linebackers K'Lavon Chaisson and Michael Divinity, are still "a little gimpy," but are on schedule to return to full practice this week, Orgeron said. Lawrence and Chaisson have been sidelined sinc e being injured in Week 2 at Texas and Divinity was hurt in LSU's last game at Vanderbilt. And while LSU (4-0) enters this Saturday's game against visiting Utah State (4-1) as a more than three-touchdown favorite, Orgeron and defensive coordinator Dave Aranda are bracing for an Aggies spread offence that, in Orgeron's view, runs at a faster tempo than that of any opponent the Tigers have faced during his four-year tenure. Practice will be designed to mimic what he called Utah State's "warp speed" pace. "We're going to practice just like they run their plays," he said. "We're going to put our best players who can simulate that on the field no matter what position they play. "Our defense is definitely going to be challenged." That defense has alrea dy been challenged. LSU is seventh in the SEC in scoring defense, allowing 23.2 points-per-game. That ranks behind fellow league unbeatens Florida, Georgia, Alabama and Auburn. - AP College Football
