The field of 24 teams competing for the 2019 NCAA Division I Football Championship was announced today by the NCAA Division I Football Championship Committee. Wofford College will host Kennesaw State on Saturday, November 30 at 4:00 p.m. at Gibbs Stadium in a first round contest. Wofford finished the season with an 8-3 overall record and a 7-1 mark in the Southern Conference to win the outright league title. This marks the Terriers tenth trip to the NCAA Playoffs and fourth straight. Wofford has won at least one playoff game in each of the last three appearances.

The game will be a rematch of a second round game last season in which Wofford was defeated 13-10 by the Owls in Georgia. "This is a great accomplishment for our players and our staff," said head coach Josh Conklin. "Now the new season starts with new challenges and it is time to start our game plan. For us it was always going to be about getting better as the season went along. I think we are playing our best football right now. Those two losses early hurt us with the seeding today, but we are in the playoffs and will have a chance. I am proud of the way that we responded and got better this season. Being at home is a good thing and we need everyone to come out and support us." - Wofford Football

Nathan Walker scored two first-quarter touchdowns and Wofford beat The Citadel 31-11 on Saturday. The win secured a repeat Southern Conference championship and a berth in the FCS playoffs. The Terriers (8-3, 7-1), ranked No. 17 in the FCS Coaches poll, forced The Citadel (6-6, 4-4) to punt on the game-opening possession, then drove 44 yards in six plays to grab a 7-0 lead on Walker's run from the 2. Wofford forced another punt -- holding The Citadel to 21 yards in its first two possessions -- and Walker struck again, rushing eight yards to cap a 72-yard drive. Walker finished with 10 carries for 94 yards. Jacquez Allen and Blake Morgan also scored rushing TDs for the Terriers. Trailing 31-3, the Bulldogs scored a touchdown with 4:45 left in the game when Brandon Rainey and Dante Smith teamed for a 31-yard pass play.   Blake Morgan ran for 147 yards and a touchdown and No. 21 Wofford fell behind early before topping No. 9 Furman, 24-7, on Saturday in a Southern Conference showdown for first place. Wofford later clinched the conference's automatic bid to the FCS playoffs due to Chattanooga's 34-33 win over The Citadel. Wayne Anderson had a 63-yard scoring run to put the Paladins up 7-0. Joe Newman scored on a 7-yard run to tie it and Wofford took the lead for good on Newman's 2-yard TD run just 35 seconds into the second quarter.

Two-time defending Southern Conference champion Wofford is the media's pick to win the league again in 2019, earning 21 of a possible 29 first-place votes. The Terriers are the media's preseason pick for the second time and first since 2017. Wofford went 9-4 overall and 6-2 in SoCon play in 2018, head coach Josh Conklin's first season, spending the entirety of the season ranked in the top 15 nationally, including eight weeks in the top 10, and finishing 12th in the AFCA Coaches' Top 25 and 13th in the STATS poll.

The Terriers, who earned 253 points in the media poll, claimed a share of their sixth SoCon title last season and reached the second round of the FCS playoffs, where they fell to second-ranked Kennesaw State, 13-10. The Terriers no longer have the services of All-American fullback Andre Stoddard but return third-team All-American offensive lineman Justus Basinger among their nine offensive starters. Basinger was joined on HERO Sports' Preseason All-America third team by fellow lineman Michael Ralph. Wofford lost six starters on defense, including third-team All-American lineman Miles Brown. - SoCon Football
