2019 ALL-AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE FIRST TEAM (COACHES): LB Patrick Nelson, SMU, Sr.,...SMU's final first-team selection is the program's new all-time single-season sack leader Nelson. With two in the Mustangs' final regular-season contest, Nelson bro ught his single-season total to 12.0. The 1.0 per game is good for second in the league and eighth in the nation. Nelson also posted a career-high 3.5 TFLs in the game for 17.0 in 2019, good for third in the AAC and top-15 nationally. OCT 28/WEEK 9 AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Patrick Nelson, SMU, Sr., LB, Chicago, Ill.,...Nelson had seven tackles, 2.5 sacks, 3.5 tackles for loss and a forced fumble to help SMU to a 34-31 win at Houston, keeping the Musta ngs unbeaten at 8-0 overall.
