J'Mar Smith threw a touchdown pass and had a late scoring run to help Louisiana Tech beat Miami 14-0 on Thursday night in the only shutout in the Independence Bowl's 44-game history. Louisiana Tech (10-3) hit double-digit victories for the first time sin ce 1984 and ran its postseason winning streak to six. Miami (6-7) completed its second losing season in 12 years. Smith connected with Israel Tucker on a 26-yard touchdown strike on a screen pass in the second quarter, capping a 13-play, 91-yard drive. S mith added an 8-yard scoring run with 1:15 left. Bulldogs running back Justin Henderson was selected the Most Outstanding Offensive Player after rushing for 95 yards on 22 carries. DEC 2 CONFERENCE USA OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Louisiana Tech senior QB J'Mar Smith had a stellar showing in his final home game on Saturday, completing 25-of-35 pass attempts for 331 yards along with three touchdowns and no interceptions in Louisian a Tech's 41-27 win over UTSA. Smith also rushed for a touchdown, tying his career-high with four total TD's on the day. Smith's 300-yard day through the air was then 11th of his career - placing him in sole possession of third place in the LA Tech record books. His passer efficiency rating of 149.7 is second-best in C-USA this season. Against the Roadrunners, the Meridian, Mississippi, native completed passes to eight different receivers. Smith has now thrown for 17 touchdowns and just four interception s on the season. He is second in the league in total offense (304.4) and leads C-USA in passing yards per game (281.4). J'Mar Smith passed for 331 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another score as Louisiana Tech closed the regular season with a 41-27 win over UTSA on Saturday night. Kickoff was delayed 2 1/2 hours due to lightning in the area. The Bulldogs (9-3, 6-2 ) finished the season tied with UAB in the Conference USA West Division standings. UAB beat Louisiana Tech 20-14 to earn the head-to-head tiebreaker and will visit Florida Atlantic for the conference championship next Saturday.The Bulldogs took th e lead for good at 21-17 on Smith's 39-yard TD pass to Isaiah Graham with 8:39 left in the second quarter. Bailey Hale kicked a 34-yard field goal before the half and James Jackson returned an interception 17 yards for a touchdown to extend the lead to 3 1-17 with 7:08 left in the third. Justin Henderson ran 20 times for 105 yards and Griffin Hebert caught three passes for 92 yards and two touchdowns for Louisiana Tech. J'Mar Smith passed for 263 yards, a touchdown and an interception on Saturday, and Louisiana Tech stay undefeated in Conference USA play with a 52-17 rout of North Texas. L'Jarius Sneed intercepted Jason Bean's pass and returned it 68 yards to give the B ulldogs (8-1, 5-0) a 45-3 lead with 9:40 left in the game. J'Mar Smith threw three touchdown passes and Justin Henderson ran for three first-quarter touchdowns to power Louisiana Tech to a 69-21 victory over Massachusetts on Saturday night. Louisiana Tech (5-1) jumped out to a 7-0 lead just 55 seconds into the g ame when Amik Robertson picked off a Randall West pass and returned it 42 yards for a TD. Henderson took over from there, scoring on runs of 74, 4 and 3 yards to put the Bulldogs up 28-0 after one quarter. Smith had TD throws of 17 yards to Griffin Heber t and 1 yard to Henderson as Louisiana Tech opened a 42-0 lead with 10:57 remaining in the second quarter.West had a 1-yard TD run and then connected with Kyle Horn for a 12-yard score to get the Minutemen (1-6) within 42-14. J'Mar Smith ran for a touchdown in overtime that made the difference as Louisiana Tech edged Rice 23-20 on Saturday night. Trailing 20-17 in the overtime period, Smith led the Bulldogs (4-1) downfield then took it in himself from 12 yards out for the win . Justin Henderson rushed for 141 yards and three touchdowns, Bailey Hale tied a program record with five field goals and Louisiana Tech beat Florida International 43-31 on Friday night. Hale kicked field goals of 41, 25 and 29 yards in the fourth quarter to give Tech a 36-24 lead with 2:17 remaining. Although the schools are located five miles apart, it was just the second meeting between the teams. Louisiana Tech beat the Tigers 20-6 in 2010 at Independence Stadium in Shreveport, Louisiana. Louisiana Tech (1-1) jumped out to a 20-0 halftime lead before Jakarie Nichols scored on a 12-yard run to cap a 93-yard drive for Grambling (0-2). A turnover and a failed fourth-down conversion stal led consecutive long drives from the Tigers, but Grambling found the end zone when Nichols scored on a 2-yard run with 3:23 to play.The Tigers recovered the ensuing onside kick but then couldn't convert a first down. Justin Henderson ran for a 7-y ard touchdown in the first quarter for the Bulldogs. Smith threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to Griffin Hebert, and Bailey Hale kicked two field goals in the second quarter. The game was dubbed the Buddy Bowl in honor of Orville Kince (O.K.
