2019 ALL-SEC FIRST TEAM (COACHES): DL Jonathan Greenard, Florida,...Greenard marks one of two Gators to feature on this year's All-SEC Defensive First Team, as Greenard's presence was certainly felt in his one year with the Gators, amassing a league-best nine sacks for a total loss of 49 yards. Greenard, a four-time SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week honoree and Bednarik Award Watch List selection, has helped the Gators reach their highest sack total (46) since 1997, while being second on the team in tackles (52), including a team-high 15.0 tackles for a total loss of 64 yards.

The Hiram, Ga. native has tallied six performances of at least six tackles, highlighted by a career-high nine-tackle performance against Georgia, while recording an interception, two forced fumbles and an 80-yard fumble return for a touchdown on the season. Greenard also became the first Gator since at least 2000 to record 5.0 tackles for a loss in game after doing so against Missouri on Nov. 16. - Florida Football

Florida linebacker Jon Greenard cleared up any questions about his status for Saturday's game against No. 8 Georgia with two words: "I'm playing," he said emphatically. He'll do so with a brace and maybe a limp. Greenard badly sprained his right ankle late against Auburn on Oct. 5, tried to play the following week at LSU and lasted one series. He ended up on the bench with a towel over his head to hide his emotions. He sat out Florida's last game, a victory at South Carolina on Oct. 19, so he's had nearly three weeks to recover. "It's getting there," he said Monday. "It's good, though...I just know I'm going to be out there, and that's all that matters." It matters most to the sixth-ranked Gators (7-1, 4-1 Southeastern Conference), who have to find ways to slow down running back D'Andre Swift and pressure quarterback Jake Fromm. - AP College Football

No. 9 Florida could be without its top two pass-rushers at South Carolina on Saturday. Coach Dan Mullen said Monday that linebacker Jon Greenard and defensive end Jabari Zuniga will be game-time decisions against the Gamecocks (3-3, 2-2 Southeastern Conference). Mullen says "we'll have to see how that goes this week for them." Both players have ankle injuries. They tried to play at LSU last Saturday, but ended up watching from the sideline. Florida's defense wasn't the same without them, giving up 511 yards in a 42-28 loss.

Florida (6-1, 3-1) has been beset by injuries this season, losing quarterback Feleipe Franks, dynamic receiver Kadarius Toney and several defensive starters. Mullen says "you come into the year and say, 'Hey, if most teams are going to have a great year, you're going to stay injury-free.' We're probably the furthest thing away from that in America this year. "But our guys have shown some (ability) to deal with adversity and come through that and continue to perform and find a way to win games." - AP College Football

Lamical Perine ran 88 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter, Florida's defense delivered another gem and the No. 10 Gators beat seventh-ranked Auburn 24-13 in the Swamp on Saturday. Perine broke linebacker K.J. Britt's tackle at the line of scrimmage and scampered down the sideline for the program's longest TD run in more than 30 years. It gave the Gators (6-0, 3-0 Southeastern Conference) extra breathing room in a game they never trailed. The biggest reason they led throughout: defense. Jon Greenard and David Reese were the stars of the show for Florida, which has given up a measly 16 points in four home games this season. The Gators kept JaTarvious Whitlow in check and harassed freshman quarterback Bo Nix, whose father, Patrick, upset top-ranked Florida in Gainesville in 1994.

Nix completed 11 of 27 passes for 145 yards for Auburn (5-1, 2-1), with a touchdown and three interceptions. He was sacked three times, once for a 22-yard loss in which he looked completely lost. Florida's Kyle Trask was equally turnover-prone, although much more efficient through the air. He was seemingly knocked out of the game in the second quarter when Auburn star Derrick Brown landed on his left leg. Trask eventually walked to the locker room with no assistance and returned to a raucous ovation. He completed 19 of 31 passes for 234 yards and two touchdowns. He also fumbled three times. Florida coach Dan Mullen told CBS at halftime that Trask sprained a knee ligament. - Florida/AP College Football

Florida outside linebacker and Louisville graduate transfer Jonathan Greenard has fit right in with the Gators while bouncing back from a wrist injury that sidelined him for nearly the entire 2018 season. Greenard made 15 1/2 tackles for loss at Louisville in 2017 before getting hurt in the season opener last year. He leads the SEC in tackles for loss (6 ½) and is tied for the conference lead in sacks (four). Greenard picked off a pass and recorded half a sack and three quarterback hurries last week in a 38-0 victory over Football Championship Subdivision program Towson. - AP College Football

Louisville transfer Jonathan Greenard was considered the Cardinals' best defensive player (and a team captain) heading into last season, but saw his year come to an abrupt end with a broken wrist early in the opening game. In 2017, he had 15.5 tackles for losses and seven sacks. With his length (6-foot-4) and athletic ability, Greenard seems a perfect fit for Polite's old position of rush end. He has Polite-like explosiveness with a little bit more size and power behind it. Greenard is expected to share playing time with junior Jeremiah Moon, who has shown signs that he's ready to break out as a playmaker. - Gainesville Sun

Senior defensive tackle Adam Shuler doesn't seem the slightest bit concerned about how the Gators are going to replace Jachai Polite and Cece Jefferson at the buck end position. "I'm 100-percent confident in the bucks and players we have coming in this year," he said. "America says that we lost talent. I say we gained talent." Polite and Jefferson have been replaced by Louisville transfer Jonathan Greenard, Jeremiah Moon and true freshmen Mohamoud Diabate and Khris Bogle.

Greenard and Moon are expected to share playing time like Polite and Jefferson did last season. Tackle TJ Slaton said there is no drop-off in talent at the position. "Jachai really set it off of how how fast he was getting back there," Slaton said. "But we got Jon Greenard who's equal or even better - plays it even quicker. He's strong. He's a lot bigger than Jachai is, but they play the position the same." - Gainesville Sun
